16/12/2014  |  Follow the bride #1

We’re very excited here at SP to have another bride-to-be in the petal shed!

Huge congratultions to Katie and Graham on their recent engagement. We will be following our lovely bride right up until the big day finding out all about what goes into planning the perfect wedding day.

The Bride

Hi Katie, can you tell our lovely readers a bit about yourself and your role at SP?

Hello my dears, I’m Katie Plant, General Manager for SP and sadly I’ll be losing my very apt surname for the job at the end of next year... but I certainly couldn’t be happier about it!

As we’re getting very close to Christmas (yey!) what are your 3 favourite, and 3 least favourite things about the festive season?

Mulled Cider, Frosty Days, Family & Friends

No least favourites so instead here’s my top 3 Christmas songs…1. It’s the most wonderful time of the year 2. Carol of the bells 3. I want a hippopotamus for Christmas

Who’s the lucky groom?!

Graham Fowles… Graham and I met 5 years ago at the Rugby & Hockey Club, I’m a hockey girl, he’s a Rugby lad, need we say more. Graham is a Firefighter in the RAF so I’m certainly expecting to be carried over the threashold once we’re married!

The Groom

So I know everyone’s dying to know, how did Graham propose?

Well last year I bought Graham 30 presents for his 30th Birthday and apparently I couldn’t top that so Graham wanted to make his Birthday perfect and proposed! But as always when you plan a particular date you can’t always expect it to run smoothly… I was flued up to the max so lying on the sofa with Bramble & Robinson ( our dog & cat) feeling sorry for myself, the house was a bomb site as we’re renovating our new house which we moved into a few months ago so it couldn’t have been in more chaos. Despite this, Graham made a lovely tea (quite an achievement with no oven) and with a carpet covered in dust, he got down on one knee and proposed. To most this would be chaos, to me it was perfect!

Unlike most brides, Katie’s very lucky and has two engagement rings! Tell us about your rings please.

So Graham planned everything a while ago when he was in Afghan so bought my ‘proposal’ ring off Amazon and got it shipped out for him to keep safe. Mum had said to us a long time ago if I wanted my Granny’s ring so of course when we rang to tell her (with Dad sniggering next to her as of course Graham asked his permission and Mum didn’t know!) we asked if it was ok to have Granny’s ring. Granny got married in 1924 and it’s beautiful, yes I’m very lucky!

Katie's Granny's sparkly ring

Have you set a date for the big day?

5th December 2015… ‘Married in December’s cheer, love shines brighter from year to year’

Working in the wedding industry for nearly 6 Years, you must have a pretty good idea of your perfect wedding day. Have you made any plans yet?

Yes we’ve set the date, church and venue are booked, photographer booked, my dress sorted, bridesmaids dresses sorted, colours sorted (top secret), this wedding malarkey is easy (I’ll eat my words later). Now I’ve just got the next 11 months to make make make! This will certainly be a hand made wedding. Next job is to tell the Bridesmaids as I know they are dying to know, I’ve got them a bauble each for Christmas with a little note attached to ask them, they’ll find out on Christmas day.

Now, the most important question; have you thought about confetti?!

Is it really bad if I say that’s the only thing I’m struggling on… I can’t decide. Plenty of time though to have a good old play with the SP Pick & Mix of course.

Congratulations Graham and Katie!

How are you and Graham enjoying all of the preperations?

Well we’ve done all the major things to do for now so we’re just going to sit back this month and enjoy December and have a wonderful Christmas, after all, it’s the the most wonderful time of the year…

Have a very merry Christmas everyone!

Love as always, Katie - SP x x

12/12/2014  |  Rose pulls the Christmas cracker

The newest member of the SP team, Rose, gives us the goss about how she spends her Christmas...

Meet Rose

Jo, Rose and Katie in their Christmas jumpers with Bramble the dog!

· What do you love about the run up to Christmas?  Have you been busy?

I love listening to all the Christmas songs on the radio (as early as possible please), it really puts you in the mood! This year my boyfriend and i are making lot of our presents, so we have been spending our evenings in the shed creating all sorts of Christmassy goods.

· How will you be spending your Christmas?

I'm having Christmas dinner with my family on Christmas eve and spending Christmas day with my boyfriend's family. Boxing day brings both families together for the traditional Boxing day clay pigeon shoot.

· Any Christmas traditions?

I love going to midnight mass in my local church on Christmas eve. It’s always so beautifully decorate and makes a great tradition, singing our hearts out to all the carols after a couple of mulled wines!

· What’s the story behind your Christmas jumper?

I am sadly lacking a Christmas jumper so this is my poor attempt to create one!! However there is definitely one on my Christmas list.

Rose's home made Christmas jumper!

· Favourite Christmas food?

It’s got to be my Grandma’s chocolate roulade. Though not technically Christmassy, I can’t stand Christmas pudding so she makes it for me and my little sister to have instead.

· What’s your favourite Christmas film & why?

Not really a Christmas film but I love watching all the Disney films on around Christmas when I’m stuffed full of food and just want to relax in front of the fire.

· What’s your favourite of the SP Christmas collection & Why?

I really like the Wheat Wreaths, perfect to hang on your door and something a little bit different to the norm. I had a go at making one of these for the first time earlier this week, it was great fun and I was quite proud of it for a first attempt!

Christmas wheat wreath

· What is your favourite Christmas song?

An impossible question.... There are far too many! But Wonderful Christmastime does evoke happy memories of my cousins and I dancing round the tree when we were little, so it might have to be that one.

Love as always, Rose - SP x x

9/12/2014  |  Petals For A Winter Wedding

Christmas is a few weeks away and all of  the lovely brides and grooms-to-be who are planning winter weddings will be sorting out the final special touches.

Have you thought about your confetti? There are so many different confetti mixes to choose from for a winter wedding so we've chosen a few of our favourites.

Our first winter wedding confetti mix is a pretty frosty mix.

A frosty winter mix

We've added some pale blue 'Duck Egg' hydrangea petals to our very popular 'Winters Morn' delphinium confetti mix. A frosty mix! Perfect for a vintage themed winter wedding.

Mix of the month for December

This festive mix is perfect for a Christmas wedding with 'Lady in red' rose petals, green 'Envy' hydrangea petals and cream 'Icing Sugar' Delphinium petals.

'Lady in red' rose petals and 'Icing Sugar' delphinium petals also look great scattered on a table. add some glitzy gold baubles to make it extra Christmasy!

Christmas  petals and baubles

Royal blue is a popular choice for winter weddings and the final choice is a firm favourite among our lovely customers.

Something Blue

Royal blue 'Bluebird' cornflower petals and cream 'Icing Sugar' delphinium petals make up 'Something Blue'.

Don't forget to make an eye catching and simple centrepiece using a small tree and some Christmas confetti baubles.

Confetti baubles

Sprinkle some small and large petals, we've used 'Purple Rain', on the table around the tree to add an extra wow factor!

We love seeing your fab confetti shots so don't forget to send them in!

Love as always, SP x x

25/11/2014  |  Christmas Wheat Sheaf

Can you believe that it's only a month until Christmas?! Which means that Christmas preperations are well underway.

Dawn has been very busy and has made this beautiful Christmas Wheat Sheaf as a decoration for her table on Christmas day.

Dawn with her Christmas Wheat Sheaf

It's so beautiful that we thought we'd show you how she did it!

First things first you need the materials to make the decoration.

Wheat Sheaf and selection of dried flowers

Dawn used the Medium Natural Wheat Sheaf , some thistle heads, cream rose heads and an assortment of her own dried flowers including demosa, helie, nigela pod and some fresh holly to make it extra Christmasy!

If you want some coloured wheat in your Christmas wheat sheaf then why not choose the natural and green or natural and silver Christmas wheat sheaf to customise?

The cream rose heads and thistle heads are sold in packs of 10 so you'll be able to make more than one Christmas wheat sheaf!

Cream rose heads and thistle heads

Attach some green wire to the stems of the heads using some tape. This makes them long enough to slot securely into the wheat sheaf. If you're using any other dried flower heads or you want to add some length this is the perfect way!

Slot the dried flowers into the wheat sheaf and finish off with a Christmasy ribbon and a spritz of glitter to add some sparkle!

Ta dah!

We think it makes the perfect decoration for the festive period or as a Christmas gift for a loved one.

Love as always, SP x x

14/11/2014  |  A bit about Ansteys Cheese

As i'm sure you all know, for our current confetti photo competition we've teamed up with Ansteys to give away a yummy cheese hamper! So we thought that you might like to know a bit more about Ansteys.

Ansteys are suppliers of traditional farmhouse cheeses, situated south of the city of Worcester beneath the beautiful Malvern Hills. We at Ansteys are passionate about great food and cheese is at the centre of our life! We now source the finest cheeses, primarily form Britains' great makers, but also from the continent and further afield. Our knowledgable and experienced team love, live and understand these products.

We love cheese!

11/11/2014  |  Emma's perfect confetti moment

Emma's next on the list to let you know all about her ideal confetti moment...

Using the petal mixer Emma chose a mix of Duck egg Blue, Icing Sugar and Lady Grey

Why have you chosen this mix of petals?

I love blue and grey, adding these to a neutral colour such as Icing Sugar will make the colour stand out perfectly in photos. I chose the Duck egg Blue hydrangea petals to add a hint of texture to make a real ‘wow’ factor confetti moment.

Emma's perfect confetti mix

Do you think your confetti mix is seasonal or could brides choose this mix all year round?

The mix I have chosen isn’t necessarily seasonal, as it would suit a vintage or blue themed wedding, however I think it would work perfectly for a snowy winter themed wedding.

If you could choose anywhere in the world to have your confetti moment, where would it be and why?? (think outside the box!)

On top of a snowy mountain and I would have my snowboard strapped to my feet to get back down again! Imagine the confetti shot, it would be truly magical – guests showering us with our chosen confetti as we head off back down a mountain! (You did say think outside the box!)

Which Shropshire Petals products would you use to create your perfect confetti shot?

If I were to have my confetti moment as above, I would need something practical, so I would choose the Shropshire Box. This can all be transported in the box and made up before the ceremony and the cones make it easy for guests to throw – especially as they would probably be wearing gloves!

Emma would pick the Shropshire Box

Do you have any tips for brides to be who are hoping to create the perfect confetti shot?

I went to a wedding a few weeks ago and luckily they had enough confetti for two photos as guests didn’t throw it high enough the first time, so make sure the photographer properly briefs guests on how to throw confetti to ensure your confetti shot is perfect.

Love as always, Emma - SP x x

7/11/2014  |  The British Wedding Awards 2015

We're over the moon at Shropshire Petals to have been nominated for The British Wedding Awards 2015, in association with Wedding Ideas magazine, in the 'Special Touches' category.

We made it into the final five in the 'Special Touches' category last year and headed to London for the awards ceremony. Unfortunately we missed out on the prize last year so are so pleased to have been nominated again this year.

The team all dressed up for the 2014 awards

It would mean the world to all of us here at Shropshire Petals if you could head to The British Weddings Awards official website and vote for us. We all had a brilliant night at the awards last year and would love to come back with the prize this year, but we need your votes!

28/10/2014  |  Jo's perfect confetti moment

Jo's up next to give you the goss about her perfect confetti moment!

Using the petal mixer on The SP website i chose a mix of 'Icing Sugar', 'Candyfloss', 'Lady Grey' and 'Promise'.

Jo's confetti mix

Why have you chosen this mix of petals?

I have to admit, one of our lovely customers actually created this mix using the pick and mix feature and it became my favourite! I love the vintage wedding theme and think this is a really pretty vintagey mix.

Do you think your confetti mix is seasonal or could brides choose this mix all year round?

I think this mix could be used all year round to add a touch of vintage to any wedding!

Which Shropshire Petals products would you use to create your perfect confetti shot?

When it comes to throwing confetti we always say 'the more the merrier!', so i would choose the confetti basket to make sure that everyone could grab a big handful of confetti. I also love the idea of adding some ribbon to the basket to jazz it up!

Jo would pick the Confetti Basket for her confetti moment

If you could choose anywhere in the world to have your confetti moment, where would it be and why?? (think outside the box!)

I’ve always loved the idea of a small beach wedding somewhere nice and warm! So my perfect confetti moment would be on a beach with the sun setting in the background - aaahhhhh!

Do you have any tips for brides to be who are hoping to create the perfect confetti shot?

Let your photographer and guests know that you're providing confetti. That way the photographer will be able to arrange a beautiful confetti shot and guests won't bring along horrible paper confetti!

Love as always, Jo - SP x x

17/10/2014  |  Helena's perfect confetti moment

Next up to spill the beans about their perfect confetti moment is Helena.

Using the petal mixer, Helena created her confetti mix using 'Raspberry Fool', 'Icing Sugar', 'Promise' and 'Duck Egg'

Helena's confetti mix

Why have you chosen this mix of petals?

I've chosen this mix because its a really warm summery mix which could brighten up any cold rainy grey day! The duck egg blue is my favourite large petal as the pale blue breaks up the pink and conjures images of chrisp blue autumnal skies.

Do you think your confetti mix is seasonal or could brides choose this mix all year round?

I think you could choose this all year round, winter doesn't have to be all greys and whites!

Which Shropshire Petals products would you use to create your perfect confetti shot?

I like the Shropshire Box especially with a mix like this. The large petals look beautiful on the top of the cones and, as a bonus, you can aim at the bride and groom pretty well to!

The Shropshire Box is a favourite for Helena

If you could choose anywhere in the world to have your confetti moment, where would it be and why??

Its rainy and grey today so im tempted to say a hot tropical beach somewhere but Im very traditional so a lovely little church on a summers day would be perfect for me.

Do you have any tips for brides to be who are hoping to create the perfect confetti shot?

The more confetti you have the better ‘shower’ you will get. Having someone organise handing out the confetti is also a great idea.

Love as always, Helena - SP x x

14/10/2014  |  Candyfloss confetti canon!

The SP team have recently exhibited at the Autumn National Wedding Shows at the NEC in Birmingham and Manchester Central.

We love exhibiting at The National Wedding Shows and talking to all of the brides to be about all things wedding! As well as exhibiting at the shows a few of our products have made their way onto one of the highlights of the show - the bridal catwalk!

Last years Autumn National Wedding Shows featured SP wheat sheaves as the models bouquets on the catwalk.

In Spring 2014 our pink 'Blush' confetti made an appearance on the bridal catwalk in gorgeous glass fish bowls.

This Autumn, SP 'candyfloss' natural petal confetti was the chosen colour for the confetti canon in the finale of the catwalk.

The confetti canon showered the models and the catwalk with pretty pink petals!

We were all so proud to see our confetti on the catwalk!

Love as always, SP x x

10/10/2014  |  Jess' perfect confetti moment

Jess is next up to let you know how she would create her perfect confetti moment. Having recently celebrated her first wedding anniversary with Jim, have they already created the perfect confetti moment??

Using the petal mixer, Jess created a pretty mix using 'Midnight Blue', 'Lady Grey', 'Icing Sugar' and 'Daisy Daisy'.

Jess' confetti mix

Why have you chosen this mix of petals?

The colours in this mix conjure images of dark, frosty winter’s mornings, which I love! Nothing better than waking up to fields covered in a heavy frost and that dark moody morning sky. I just love going out into the morning and seeing your breath and feeling that crunch beneath your feet. Plus it really makes you appreciate a good fire and hot drink when you get back in!

Do you think your confetti mix is seasonal or could brides choose this mix all year round?

I think that this is quite a wintery mix, however a bride is always right and if she wants these colours any other time of the year then why not!

If you could choose anywhere in the world to have your confetti moment, where would it be and why?? (Think outside the box!)

Well I think I am supposed to say that I have already had my perfect confetti moment, which was when I married Jim! We had a lovely hot summer’s day wedding and of course we had massive amounts of confetti of every single colour we have in our range!

confeti shot_1

Jess and Jim's perfect confetti moment!

Which Shropshire Petals products would you use to create your perfect confetti shot?

Well I am a great fan of our confetti basket, I just love taking a great big handful of confetti and throwing it all over the bride and groom!

Jess is a big fan of The Confetti Basket

Do you have any tips for brides to be who are hoping to create the perfect confetti shot?

The more the merrier I say! Lots of confetti and someone nice and bossy to organize the confetti shot. I think guests lining a path way or making a tunnel for the new Mr & Mrs to walk through always works and you get a lovely confetti moment. Some of the nicest photo we had of our wedding were as we walked down the church path getting covered in petals.

Love as always, Jess - SP x x

7/10/2014  |  Helena's top 3 stands at The National Wedding Show in Birmingham

Helena headed to The National Wedding Show at the NEC in Birmingham over the weekend and she's written a blog about her favourite exhibits....

This weekend I’ve been at the national wedding show in Birmingham, and what a busy weekend it was!  Even so I managed to find a little time to have a good wander about to spot my 3 favourite finds of this year’s show.

From cocktail bars in mini vans to twinkling golden trees to set a romantic scene, this year’s show had it all.

But, although fantastic, these haven’t quite made my top 3.

Number three is ‘Honey bees Vintage teas’, a family run company that provides beautiful vintage china and accessories “bringing a touch of quintessential English country garden to your table.”

Honey Bees Vintage Teas

What a beautiful stand, I love the vintage trunk! Make sure you visit the Honey Bees Vintage Teas website!

In second place is the fantastic ice cream tricycle of ‘Lees ice dreams’. Here’s Lee with his traditional ice cream tricycle!

Lees Ice Dreams

Not only does this have the lovely vintage feel, but it’s a bicycle… full of ice cream!  Oh, and like us here at Shropshire petals, it’s completely eco-friendly, no power source needed! Don't forget to visit Lees Ice Dreams Website!

And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for…

Coming in at number 1 and not remotely contested by the ladies of Shropshire petals, Joe Seager, the singer songwriter who serenaded our stand (he was opposite ours) with a beautiful collection of covers and his own songs.

Joe Seagar

And we even managed to get a free CD! I suggest you have a listen to some of his songs on Joe Seagars website!

Love as always, Helena - SP x x

First up is The National Wedding Show, Birmingham. The team will be exhibiting from Friday 3rd October until Sunday 5th October at the NEC in Birmingham. We're on stand C55 so make sure you come and visit us for some expert confetti advice and your free sample of confetti!

26/09/2014  |  Autumn petals

Autumn weddings take on rich warm tones which we love here at SP so we thought we would sit down with a cuppa, and have a look at the rich colours of this understated season and share a few of our favourite Autumnal confetti mixes with you.

24/09/2014  |  Autumn wedding ideas

As we leave the warm summer days behind we have the beautiful season of Autumn to look forward to.

We know Autumn has arrived when the leaves start turning from green to brown and we swap our t-shirts for wooly jumpers in the petal shed!

Our Autumn wedding Pinterest board is full of our favourite ideas to inspire our Autumn brides!

We thought we'd look a little closer at some of the pins....

Wheat is the perfect accessory for an Autumn wedding! Create some simple yet stunning name places with a sprig of wheat and a pretty name tag.

19/09/2014  |  Katie's perfect confetti moment!

Katie spills the beans about her perfect confetti moment...

Using the petal mixer, Katie created a mix using 'Bluebird', 'Midnight Blue' and 'Cerise'.

Why have you chosen this mix of petals?

Because I couldn’t tell you the mix that I actually want - that’s top secret! So I’ve chosen a mix that’s bright, bold and beautiful.

Katie's confetti mix

Do you think your confetti mix is seasonal or could brides choose this mix all year round?

All year round, it adds bold colour to a winter wedding and will catch the light well for a fab summer wedding shot.

Which Shropshire Petals products would you use to create your perfect confetti shot?

The Shropshire Box. I think I’d buy 2 boxes; one with green cones and one with purple. I’d then alternate the cones between both boxes – I love mixing colours up.

Katie's a fan of the Shropshire Box

If you could choose anywhere in the world to have your confetti moment, where would it be and why?? (think outside the box!)

I’d like to set off in a hot air balloon after the wedding at sunset, throwing petals down and showering the guests in confetti. Why should the guests have all the fun!?

Do you have any tips for brides to be who are hoping to create the perfect confetti shot?

Relax, smile and enjoy! If you enjoy it, it will be perfect and the photographer will capture that. It’s by far the best photo for your thank you cards.

Love as always, Katie - SP x x

16/09/2014  |  Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival is a celebration that takes place to give thanks for a successful harvest with celebrations taking place worldwide on, or near, the Sunday of the Harvest Moon.

Harvest festival has been celebrated since Pagan times in the UK with celebrations including singing, praying and displaying harvested produce.

With Harvest Festival just around the corner we thought we would give you some decorative ideas!

Wheat is a very popular decoration for Harvest Festival and we've got some wonderful wheat sheaves and wheat wreaths that are perfect for the occasion!

Wheat wreath and wheat sheaves

12/09/2014  |  Marvellous Marjoram!

We use marvellous marjoram in our gorgeous plummy mix 'Pinch of Plum', which is the perfect confetti combo for an Autumn themed wedding.

Did you know that Marjoram is also known as 'Joy of the mountain'? Marjoram was used by the Greeks to make beautiful bridal wreaths to symbolise love, honour and happiness. Which makes it the perfect  petal for showering newlyweds with!

Use the pick and mix feature on the website to create your own confetti mix using 'pinch of plum'.

9/09/2014  |  Dawn's perfect confetti moment

The SP team are all confetti experts so i thought it was about time that they spilled the beans about their favourite confetti mix!

First up is Dawn!

Using the petal mixer Dawn created her chosen mix of 'Icing Sugar', 'Honey b' and 'Black Tie'

Why have you chosen this mix of petals?

When we married in 1972, very hippy era, I wore a black velvet liberty trouser suite with a puffy blouse the same colour as honey b, and a black velvet hat

Dawn's unique confetti mix

Do you think your confetti mix is seasonal or could brides choose this mix all year round?

I consider this to be personal preference, not everyone’s choice. However I think it is a good choice for winter weddings.

If you could choose anywhere in the world to have your confetti moment, where would it be and why?? (think outside the box!)

Along the Appian way in Rome. It’s the only cobbled Roman road remaining. We both love history and Rome. It has olive trees growing alongside the road with glorious open country views, peaceful surroundings, except for the wild life.

Which Shropshire Petals products would you use to create your perfect confetti shot?

Probably the flower girl basket, so a small number of people can scatter them over us as we walk along the road, just like the Romans did. Claudius had this road commissioned to show Rome’s wealth and opulence as visiting dignitaries approached the capital.

Do you have any tips for brides to be who are hoping to create the perfect confetti shot?

Just go with the flow enjoy every moment, the more natural the shot the better the outcome.

Love as always, Dawn - SP x x

19/08/2014  |  Wildlife in the flowers

We've been very busy with harvest this summer to make sure that we've got lots of beautiful petals for our lovely customers!

While harvesting the flowers, we've noticed that we're not the only ones who love the pretty petals....

Bumble bees

Did you know that there are 300 different types of bumble bee and 24 of these are found in the UK. I wonder how many different bumble bees have been enjoying our flowers this summer?

We've seen lots of butterflies fluttering around the flowers this summer and have just discovered that they taste with their feet! I wonder which flower they thought tasted the best... Candyfloss? Midnight Blue? Or perhaps Raspberry Fool!

It's so nice to see that we're not the only ones that have been enjoying the flowers!

15/08/2014  |  Alternative uses for confetti: Part 2 - How to create a petal path

Shropshire Petals natural petal confetti is perfect for throwing, but the pretty petals also have other uses. A few weeks ago I told you all about how to use petals as table decorations in the Alternative uses for confetti: Part 1 - table decorations.

Today's blog is all about another alternative use for our natural petals: how to create a beautiful petal path.

Pretty petal path

Step 1: Use our confetti calculator to help you to work out how many litres of petals you will need.

Confetti calculator

Step 2: When you know how many litres you will need it's time to choose your petals! You can choose from small delphinium petals, larger petals or why not choose a mix of the two??

In my first week with SP I began by learning how to do the post and pack orders ready to be sent on their way.

Later in the week I lent a helping hand in the depetalling shed.

After a couple of hours the end product showed that hard work really does pay off.

11/07/2014  |  Lovely larkspur

The flower for July is the lovely larkspur, which looks amazing blooming in our fields! Larkspur is an annual version of delphinium, an all-time favorite perennial.

Larkspur produces lovely spikes of blue, purple, pink, or white flowers in spring and summer.

This beautiful flower is  used to make the majority of our throwing confetti like the beautiful 'Amethyst' and 'Summer nights' natural petal confetti.

Can you believe it's been a year since Jim and Jess tied the knot?!

This time last year everyone was busy getting ready for the big day on the 6th July, and what a beautiful day it was!

Lets have a look at what they've been upto here at SP over the last year.....

Just after the wedding was SP's annual photo shoot which featured lots of photos of the new Mr and Mrs Shropshire Petals!

Later on in the summer, Christine Bleakely and her team from ITV visited us at SP to get some footage for their "Off the beaten track" series.

In January the SP team headed down to London for the Wedding Ideas awards ceremony. We were nominated for an award in the 'special touches' category.

27/06/2014  |  Hannah guest blogs for SP

My work experience at Shropshire Petals

On my first busy day I was given a tour around and introduced to the team. I helped to organize the post and make some lovely samples as well as assisting with the orders coming through.

Luckily for me, the weather has been very sunny so I've been up to the fields here to see the flowers and wheat that goes into the confetti and wheat sheaves.

Harvesting wheat. 26_1

I was given the opportunity to create my own mix of throwing confetti using the delphiniums and wild flowers and the larger petals for a vintage theme. After a long time pondering over colours on the pick and mix section in the SP website,  I decided to go with the  popular raspberry fool petals, the lady grey petals and damson wine rose petals. I think they match together very well and would make some great throwing confetti for a pink and grey wedding. I mixed it up and took some photographs to show off my project in my work experience diary.

Near the end of the project, I created an exciting pinterest board on the SP profile, so gathered together some of the best photos I took, and some beautiful pictures of pink and grey weddings, using them together to promote my throwing confetti mix.

If you're looking for inspiration for your own confetti mix, take a look at our Pinterest page!

24/06/2014  |  Alternative uses for confetti: Part 1 - Table decorations

Here at SP we love nothing more than throwing lots of confetti around! Lots of our lovely customers have sent in their confetti photos and it's clear to see that you all do too!

Have you ever thought about what else our beautiful petals can be used for?? I'm going to tell you all about alternative uses for confetti, starting with table decorations.

A scattering of petals

Small and large petals look great scattered on a table. We've used a multi-coloured delphinium and wildflower mix of 'Kaleidoscope' and Some larger rose petals in 'Cerise' and 'Golden Slumber'.

Scatter them around a centre piece of flowers using either matching or contrasting colours for a simple, colourful table!

Alternatively, you could use petals as your centrepiece.

wisteria_in_fish_bowl Vakentine_s_centre_piece

Wisteria and Lady in red candle centrepieces

Make a stunning candle centrepiece by popping the candle in a fish bowl and surrounding it with large petals like our lilac 'Wisteria' hydrangea petals and our 'Lady in red' rose petals. Why not add some matching ribbon?

Petals  in jars and fish bowls!

We've popped some lilac 'Wisteria' hydrangea petals in a jar and scattered our 'My Fair Lady' large and small petal mix around the jar - perfect for a purple colour scheme!

Or go for our light pink 'Promise' rose petals in a small fish bowl for a delicate pretty pink centre piece!

Confetti heart

Why not have a confetti heart as the centre piece for your tables?? Our pastel 'Summer Nights' mix makes a beautiful confetti heart - perfect for a summer wedding!

20/06/2014  |  Summer Nights

Tomorrow is the longest day of the year, also known as the Summer Solstice, which marks the first day of the summer season in the Northern hemisphere.

Summer officially begins tomorrow, which means long summer days, so we thought it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate our 'Summer Nights' natural petal confetti mix!

Summer nights is a mix of 3 delphinium petals; pale pink 'Candyfloss', pale blue 'Frosted Blue' and ivory 'Icing Sugar'.

17/06/2014  |  Calendula and cornflowers

Jess and Jo popped up to the fields last week to pick the first calendula and cornflowers.

Friday's blog was all about picking and de-petalling. Today you can see the beautiful end product....

The bright orange calendula petals, which we call 'Ginger snap', looks great on its own or in our 'Orange Blossom' recommended delphinium and wildflower mix.

The sunshine yellow calendula petals will be ready to use as 'Honey'b' confetti which we also use in our 'Sunshine Kisses' recommended mix.

These beautiful orange and yellow petals are perfect for a summer wedding!

Our blue cornflower petals, which we call 'Bluebird', are also used in our very popular 'Something Blue' mix. Could this pretty natural petal confetti mix be your something blue?!

The dark purple cornflowers dry almost black and are appropriately named 'Black Tie' which we use in our 'Tuxedo' black and white recommended delphinium and wildflower mix - perfect for a black and white wedding!

From field, to farm, to a handful of confetti - now you know how our wonderful confetti is produced!

We grow, you throw!

13/06/2014  |  The first flowers

We're very excited to see how well all of our flowers are doing. Not long now until they will be ready to pick, de-petal and start their new life as our wonderful natural petal confetti!

Jess and Jo popped up to one of the fields earlier on in the week to see how all of the flowers are getting on.

It was great to see how much the plants have grown! We were even able to pick the first calendula and cornflowers.

A yellow calendula and a blue cornflower

Picking the first flowers

Unfortunately, while we were busy picking flowers we got caught in an enormous rain storm! It was worth it though as we were able to take the flowers back down to the farm where we de-petalled them ready to become our wonderful confetti!

10/06/2014  |  The month of the rose

Did you know that the flower for June is the rose? The rose has to be the most romantic flower of them all and over the years has stood as a symbol of love, beauty, war and even as an emblem of England.

We love roses here at SP and have a range of beautiful dried rose petals, which you can find in our 'larger petals' range, in lots of different colours like our light pink 'Promise' rose petals and mauve 'Delilah' rose petals. If you're looking for something brighter why not go for yellow 'Golden Slumber' rose petals or bright pink 'Cerise' rose petals. There's a colour for every theme!

23/05/2014  |  Guest blog - DIY confetti bags

Gemma has written a guest blog for SP all about how she made her personalised confetti bags.....

The prospect of making things myself for our wedding in September really excited me and Pinterest provided a lot of inspiration.

My first project was to make some confetti bags for my guests to use after we are married. The idea on Pinterest lead to the actual project, which was on a site called b.loved weddings.

Ocean Mist throwing confetti from Shropshire Petals, 61mm x 92mm glassine bags, scissors, Pritt Stick and diy labels.

I purchased the glassine envelopes from Ebay and was lucky enough to be gifted with my confetti for my project from a local company called Shropshire Petals who grow their own petals for confetti.

When Simon created the labels for me, I loved them! I needed to make 19 little bags for my guests.

I had a fab time making the confetti bags and it felt good knowing that I was putting a personal touch into something that would be used by our guests on our big day.

I was initially sent some samples from Shropshire Petals relating to our purple and ivory colour scheme. We chose Ocean Mist from the samples as we loved the colouring and thought it was aptly named considering we are getting married abroad, by the sea.

The petal confetti is completely natural, biodegradable and eco-friendly. On The Shropshire Petals website you can choose your packaging, including confetti baskets, pails and individual sachets and then choose your confetti using the 'pick and mix' feature.

We were sent 2 litres of Ocean Mist throwing confetti which provides enough for approximately 20 handfuls or enough to scatter on 20 tables. It comes in a cream 1 litre bag with a cream satin ribbon (I thought the packaging was lovely with its little ribbon and see-through window). 1 litre of Ocean Mist throwing confetti is £11.25 and we were sent 2 litres which in total would have cost us £22.50.

I didn't use all of the confetti to fill my confetti bags so will use this for aisle petals or table decorations. They have lots of inspirational ideas on their website, as well as help and advice in relation to the petals that they sell; you can also order some free samples so you can get a feel for some of the petals before you place an order.

Gemma's confetti bags

How to make the confetti bags:

1 - Take a little glassine envelope.
2 - Fill it up with the confetti but make sure that you can still fold the top section over.
3 - Take a label and glue all around the edges. Position it nicely over the envelope so you have half over the front and the same or less at the back.

They were really easy to make and I'm so happy with the results. They will be placed on our order of the day cards which will be waiting for our guests at the ceremony as they take their seats.

I was initially interested in Shropshire Petals natural throwing confetti anyway and was looking at the website for some time, I liked that the company was local, the petals were grown locally by the company themselves and that the confetti was a little different to the usual paper confetti you get, aswell as the petals being natural, biodegradable and eco-friendly.

Thanks so much for reading!

20/05/2014  |  A bit about The Wedding Tree company

As you will all know, our latest confetti photo competition is underway and with plenty of amazing entries so far, the winner will truly deserve the amazing prize from The Wedding Company.

We thought you would like to find out a bit more about The Wedding Tree company so Jen has been busy writing away for the blog....

We are Mr & Mrs Ford. Richard and Jennifer, along with our 3 year old daughter Ava-Grace, the family behind ‘The wedding Tree’. Richard is a hearty tradesman with big hands and an accurate eye for joinery. I am a primary school teacher with ever changing hair colour and a love of art.

jen_and_rich___wedding_tree_company jen_and_rich___wedding_tree_company.jpg_drop_box

Jen and Rich on their wedding day, The mini drop top box, one of the wedding tree company's lovely products!

Richard has been successfully running his own joinery business for the last 7 years, carrying out bespoke furniture commissions and domestic joinery. On the lead up to our own wedding, in August 2012, I kept Richard busy making wooden props to personalise our own special day, as I was having very little luck sourcing the items I had conjured up in my head.

This is when the light bulb went on in Richard’s head, ‘this is a business’ he chirped down the phone to me. And so it began, after a relaxing honeymoon it was time to hit the ground running, we have now been branching out in the world of weddings as The Wedding Tree Company for the last 18 months.

The Wedding Tree range is an exciting and innovative part of the ever growing BspOak Ltd, offering bespoke and totally personalised wooden wedding props, venue accessories and keepsakes.

Check out the Wedding Tree Company's website, like The Wedding Tree Company on Facebook and don't forget to follow them on Twitter

17/04/2014  |  Samantha Birch guest blogs for SP

Think confetti is just for a quick throw after you’re done with the ‘I do’s? Don’t miss out on the petal potential!

summer_nights_natural_petal_confetti summer_sky_biodegradable_confetti_mix

So far I’m the author of one book: The High-Street Bride’s Guide. I’ve written about dresses, bridesmaids and cake toppers for Brides and You & Your Wedding, and regularly contribute to the likes of GLAMOUR and Love Baking.

We nearly forgot to do our confetti shots. My husband was trying to find somewhere to put the marriage certificate and I was helping out by grinning dazedly at 100 of our family and friends. Thankfully the best man was on the ball, and ready with a reminder that the time for the painstakingly hand-packaged handfuls was now.

DifferentShadesOfPurple Handfuls_of_Confetti

Lucky, really, since I love our confetti shots – both of us bobbing and laughing as we get pelted by our nearest and dearest, and afterwards the close-ups of my hair and his all speckled with yellows and reds – but it turns out there are a whole lot more things you can do with confetti besides the traditional duck and cover, especially if you’re going for the real-petal stuff. Here are a few ways with yours…

Hope Floats

I love those big, round, clear, see-through balloons filled with helium – classy much? – but for a boho wedding or a softer look, add a little personal touch: a sprinkling of your own big-day confetti blend inside so you can see a layer of colour when they’re all pumped up.

confetti_balloon confetti_balloon_popping

Do a Runner

If your aisle is wide enough, sprinkle your petal confetti loose along each side for the ultimate romantic run-up. If it’s narrow enough that you’re likely to kick it up in clouds or sweep it away with your dress though, you might want to adhere your petals to lengths of fabric.

confetti_petal_path confetti_petal_path_outside

Sprinkle, Sprinkle

If tiny crystals and foil wedding bells aren’t your thing, substitute pretty petals instead of the traditional table scatter. Skip this idea if you’re eating outdoors – unless you’re in the mood for a faceful of flower every time the wind blows – but it’s a great way to bring the garden inside at hotel, orangery and village hall dos.

Manchester_event_city__boris_and_betty_stand pink_petals_for_table_decorations

A Glass Act

Going for a garden party feel, but those 100 plain glasses just don’t cut it? Time to truss up those bases. Glue petals from the edge of the base inwards in circles that overlap slightly. Voila: one glass that looks like it’s growing out of a flower!

By the Book

Stacking a few tomes for literary table centres, but want to add a bit of height and colour? Fill variously sized and shaped jars or clear glass bowls with petals in your scheme’s shades – one or two colours per jar so they don’t get too busy – and perch on ends of books with a statement table number in the middle at the top.

light_pink_promise_rose_petals_as_table_decoration lilac_hydrangea_petals_as_table_decorations_

What a Card

Making your own thank-you cards for maids, Mum and Dad? Get your leftover petal confetti in on the act. Cut a heart-shaped window out of the front card and line it with stiff, clear plastic, then cover the backing card with petals for a pretty peek-a-boo effect. Only a handful of petals left? Use just one or two per card and get arty with a line drawing to incorporate it: is that a balloon, or a petal your figure is holding? Is the bridesmaid you’ve drawn in ink wearing a skirt made of rose petals too?

Pretty Maids All in a Row

Let your besties keep a piece of your day with the simplest handmade necklace ever. Fill an empty mini bottle pendant with petals (bauble shapes work just as well) or go minimalist: cut into the wider end of a single petal until it’s a heart shape, and slip that inside instead.

Mix of the month for March

Our mix of the month has inspired me to write a blog about the perfect petals for a vintage inspired wedding.

We love light coloured petals for a vintage confetti mix like our light pink 'candy floss', light blue 'frosted blue' and cream 'icing sugar' delphinium petals. Our 'Summer nights' confetti mix is made up of all three pretty colours and the 'Pink lemonade' is made up of 'candy floss' and 'icing sugar' which is perfect if you're having pink as your main colour.

'Winters morn' has been really popular at wedding shows this Spring among brides-to-be looking to add a touch of vintage to their big day.

We love throwing lots of confetti here at SP, but remember, petals aren't just for throwing; why not use them to decorate for an effortless vintage look.

18/03/2014  |  Confetti petal bath bombs for Mother's day

Mother's day is just around the corner, and I'm sure you all remember the days when you would come home from school, with a handmade mother's day card in your bag, all excited to give it to your mum on Mothering Sunday. All mum's love receiving hand made cards and gifts, so why not make your mum something special this Mother's day?

Confetti bath bombs make a beautiful gift, and are really easy to make. All you need is a litre of natural petal confetti, 2 parts sodium bicarbonate, 1 part citric acid, a mould for the bath bombs, a mixing bowl and spoon and a tiny bit of water.

Confetti petal bath bomb ingredients

As we're nearly into spring I chose pretty Spring colours with a mix of frosted blue, icing sugar, bluebird and golden slumber. I used old Christmas baubles as moulds.

Step 1: Gather all of the above ingredients. I used about 300 grams of sodium bicarbonate and 150 grams of citric acid.

Step 2: Add your dry ingredients- sodium bicarbonate, citric acid and petals- into the mixing bowl and give it a good mix.

Step 2

Step 3: Add a TINY bit of water, stirring all the while.

Step 3

The reason I've put the word 'tiny' in capital letters is because i added too much water!

Emergency spare ingredients!

Luckily I had some spare sodium bicarbonate and citric acid on stand by especially for this reason!

In goes the calendula and extra sodium bicarbonate and citric acid

I would definitely recommend having some spare mixture just incase! I also decided to add in some 'honey b' which is a calendula petal and is used in herbal remedies to soothe skin, so is perfect for a bath bomb!

Step 4: The mix should still be slightly powdery but able to stay together. Play around with the quantities of water, bicarbonate of soda and citric acid until your mix is the right consistency.

Ready to go into the moulds

Step 5: Pack your mixture into your chosen moulds, and leave for about half an hour to dry.

Confetti petal bath bomb

Step 6: After half an hour the confetti bath bombs should be dry enough to take out of the moulds.

Step 7: Leave your confetti bombs to dry overnight, and then wrap them up ready for Mother's day

Add some extra special touches like yellow rose petals and sprigs of lavender...

Wrapped and ready for Mother's day

The great thing about bath bombs is you can add whatever you want. Why not add some lavender grain or scented oil?

Change the colours of the confetti petals for different ocassions; the colours I've used are perfect for Mother's day and Easter but you could add pink petals like our 'raspberry fool' or 'blush' for a Valentine's bath bomb, or make them for a friend using their favourite colours.

A personal, pretty homemade gift for a loved one!

14/03/2014  |  How to use your confetti. Part 2 - Bo Peep Basket

We have two beautiful confetti baskets here at SP, The Confetti basket and The Flower Girl basket.

The Confetti basket is a larger basket, ideal for holding lots of lovely confetti, 4 litres fits perfectly.  The Flower Girl basket is a smaller confetti basket and is the perfect size for a little flower girl, and holds approximately a litre of confetti.

This blog will focus on The Confetti basket and will show you the different ways you can use it, including our complete package called The Bo-Peep Basket.

The Confetti basket is a beautiful way to display your confetti to your guests, whether you choose to fill the basket with lots of confetti and ask guests to grab a handful...

BrightConfettiBasket ShropshirePetals_1307_121

Or fill up the basket with some colourful confetti cones for your guests to take on their way out.  We have a complete package which we call The Bo-Peep Basket which comprises of a confetti basket, 20 cones of your colour choice and enough confetti to fill, again of your colour choice- you can even pick & mix your confetti colours!

shropshirepetals-1307-146 march_mix_of_the_month

With pink, purple, green, blue and white confetti cones to choose from and a rainbow of confetti colours, there's a colour for every wedding!

Why not add some personal touches to your Bo Beep basket...

ShropshirePetals_1307_145 ShropshirePetals_1307_134

You can add ribbon, flowers and even a little note asking guests to take a handful to make sure everyone gets some to ensure you get the perfect confetti shot!

However you choose to use your Bo Beep confetti basket, when it comes to the confetti, just throw it!!

11/03/2014  |  Reminder for Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday is the 30th March this year, which is just under 3 weeks away!

Every mum deserves to be spoilt on Mothers day, whether that means breakfast in bed, being showered with gifts or being treated to a day out.

Here at SP we've got some great ideas to make Mother's day extra special....

Mother's day ideas

Sprinkle some rose buds around a beautifully wrapped gift and leave it on the kitchen table for your Mum to find, bake some yummy cupcakes and add some rose petals, so simple, but they look amazing!

Turn a simple candle into a stunning centre piece by adding petals and ribbon, we've used blue bloom delphinium heads and wisteria, lilac hydrangea petals.

Beautiful tables

A really easy way to make your table look amazing, place a vase of fresh flowers on the table and scatter petals around them. So quick and simple, but I'm sure you'll agree, very effective!! We've used our Kaleidoscope mix and some rose petals in cerise and golden slumber.

We can't forget our wonderful wheat sheaves, the perfect gift for Mother's day!

ShropshirePetals-1209-147_2 Wheat_sheaf_and_confetti_table_deco

Wheat sheaves

We love the cream rose and lavender wheat sheaf, they look great, smell great and last for ages!

A beautiful alternative to a fresh flower bouquet that looks great as a table centre piece or on the mantle piece.

The wheat sheaf will last for a long time after Mothers day so will be a reminder to your Mum of her wonderful day for months after!

7/03/2014  |  Vintage mix for march

As we move into March, we can finally start saying goodbye to what seems like a long Winter and hello to Spring!

We've been exhibiting at lots of wedding shows over the last few weeks (check our our 'on the road' section on the website) and have made up lots of samples for brides-to-be, with one of the most popular choices being a mix of pale pink, cream and vintage grey.

This month, our mix of the month has taken this on board with a beautiful vintage mix.

March_mix_of_the_month_2014 ShropshirePetals_1307_531

Mix of the Month

This confetti mix for March is made up of pale pink 'Candyfloss', cream 'Icing Sugar', and vintage grey 'Lady Grey' delphinium petals.

If you're having a vintage inspired wedding, this confetti mix will be the perfect confetti.

A basket of confetti

Why not display your confetti in pink cones in a basket for an extra touch of vintage.

5/03/2014  |  March-ing into Spring

As we move into March, we can finally start saying goodbye to winter.

The daffodil is the flower for the month of March and I saw some for the first time this year at the weekend, which definitely means Spring is on the way!

Why not choose some bright confetti for your big day?

A touch of sunshine

Our "Golden Slumber" yellow rose petal adds sunshine to any confetti mix..To make this pretty mix we've combined "Golden Slumber" with "Icing sugar" and "Duck-egg Blue"

There's lots happening this March and we can't forget that today is Ash Wednesday, which of course means that yesterday was pancake day! We had lots of fun flipping pancakes here at SP...

28/02/2014  |  How to use your confetti. Part 1- confetti pails

We are often asked "How does confetti work?" or " what do I do with the confetti?"

So I'm putting together a series of "how to's" to show you the best ways to present the confetti to your guests.

There are so many different ways to present confetti. This week, we will be focusing on confetti pails.

Our confetti pails come in a range of colours so you can match them to your colour scheme. You can choose from pink, cream, silver or purple.

Confetti pails

The confetti pails look great filled up with lots of confetti, and make it easy for guests to grab a handful.

Customise the pails to match your wedding theme by adding ribbon to the handles, or around the top of the pails or even attaching ornamental decorations like these beautiful butterflies.

24/02/2014  |  Confetti on the catwalk

The team headed down to London Olympia for The National Wedding Show at the weekend.

Last year, we were so pleased to see our wonderful wheat sheaves make an appearance on The National Wedding Show catwalk

This year, Shropshire Petals have made it on to the catwalk again, and it's our confetti that's stolen the spotlight!

The confetti was thrown from a fishbowl as the model made her way down the catwalk. Could fishbowls be a new wedding trend?

Our pink "Blush" confetti, which is a combination of "Icing Sugar", "Candyfloss" and "Raspberry Fool" was the chosen combination of pink confetti.

Not only did our confetti make an appearance on the catwalk this weekend, SP also featured on the 'Bride de Force' You Tube channel.

21/02/2014  |  Woodland Chic

18/02/2014  |  A snapshot of Purple Confetti full of imagination...

Did you know that the birthstone for February is Amethyst?  Of course we are going to rave about the colour...  Shropshire Petals even have amethyst confetti.  All shades and tints of purple are very on trend, especially when mixed with grey for a vintage lavender look and yes of course our 'lady grey' just perfectly fits the bill.  So let's grab a handful and start throwing some confetti...

purple_confetti_petals grey_confetti_handful

Now I know no one wishes for rain on their wedding day but I'm sure there's an exception for a confetti shower! Especially a shower of grey and purple petals from above.  This is your big moment, it's your big day and you and your new husband get showered in rediculously pretty petals- perfect!

Now the confetti shot is just for you and your hubby, it's your time to have the confetti thrown over you blessing you a happy marriage, but why is it that the guests get all the confetti throwing fun! If it were me, I'd like to join in on the throwing action too! So why not add an extra litre to your order for your own confetti pic, you and your new husband can create your own personal picture.  Why not try a puff of confetti...

handful_of_confetti a_puff_of_confetti

Take a handful, line it up to your face and puff confetti at the camera for a super beautiful shot...

So there's lots of ways to throw or puff confetti, personally I'd do them all!  Have fun creating your own unique confetti but also your own unique confetti shot... We'd love to see your pics!

6/02/2014  |  Valentine's ideas

Valentine's day is just around the corner, and here at SP we have some great ideas to make your Valentine's day special.

'Raspberry Fool' heart

Roses are the traditional flower to give on Valentine's day, so why not mix things up a bit and use our dried rose heads as decorations or give your loved one a wheat sheaf with roses and lavender.

If your big day is on Valentine's day why not use our 'pick and mix' tool to make your very own Valentine's confetti.

Sprinkle petals on the table, in the bath or on the bed, hide a gift in petals, use petals to make a stunning centre piece and even leave a path of petals for your loved one to follow.

30/01/2014  |  what's new at SP

We're very excited to unveil our shiny new SP packaging! The new packaging will be used for all of our orders from now on.

The new SP packaging

Our packaging isn't the only thing that's new here at SP; we've also added a new colour to our collection of confetti cones. Purple is a very popular choice of colour for weddings and is a favourite for 2014. You can now match your confetti cones to your colour scheme!

Purple Confetti Cones

The purple cones look great with our 'Highland Fling' purple and cream confetti

Have you seen our latest wheat product? The Christmas wheat wreath was so popular that we've decided to make it available to customers all year round. The wheat wreath is made with wheat grown on the farm and is finished off with a raffia bow.

Add a touch of country chic to any occasion with a natural wheat wreath.

We've finally left January behind and have moved into February "the most romantic month"

So of course, we have a new 'mix of the month'. This month the confetti mix combines 'Icing sugar' cream and 'Lady grey' grey delphinium petals with 'golden slumber' yellow rose petals.

24/01/2014  |  Burns Night

A Burns supper is a tradition that dates back to the end of the 18th century and originated in Scotland. Haggis, the national dish of Scotland, is eaten at the Burns Night supper.

A few members of the SP team had never tried haggis, so Jess decided to make some savoury haggis potato cakes to make sure that no one missed out!

Haggis_potatoe_cakes__1_ Haggis_potatoe_cakes__2_

Haggis potato cakes

Jess combined haggis, neeps, tatties and kale to make the yummy potato cakes, and also made a whiskey cream sauce to go with them.

Having haggis at a Scottish wedding breakfast adds a real sense of tradition. If you're planning a Scottish wedding, why not take a look at our 'Highland Fling' delphinium and wildflower natural petal confetti mix.

Purple is a very popular wedding colour so Highland Fling is one of our most popular confetti mixes.

20/01/2014  |  Blue Monday

Today, Monday 20th January, is also known as 'Blue Monday' and is said to be the most depressing day of the year; the Christmas glow has faded away, New Year’s resolutions have been broken and the cold Winter weather has set in.

Blue is often associated with feeling gloomy, but we disagree and love the colour blue! This love is reflected in our Shropshire Petals logo and our SP t-shirts!

Colour has the ability to affect our physical, mental and emotional states.

The colour blue is rare, calming, cooling and even caring!

There are lots of wedding traditions that feature the colour blue:

The colour blue is worn by brides to safeguard their luck.

Married in blue- you will always be true

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. The 'something blue' denotes fidelity and love.

Even our January mix of the month  is a blue mix combining 'Icing sugar' cream delphinium petals, 'Envy' green hydrangea petals, 'Frosted Blue' delphinium petals and 'Bluebird' cornflower petals

13/01/2014  |  Wedding Ideas Awards 2014

On Friday evening the SP team headed down to London for the Wedding Ideas Awards ceremony at the Tower hotel in London.

We were nominated for an award in the 'special touches' category and were delighted to make it into the final five in such a strong category. Unfortunately we didn't pick up the award this year and would like to say congratulations to 'wedding in a teacup' who won the award.

Thank you to everyone who voted for us, it was amazing to be nominated for an award and the team all had a great night at the Wedding Ideas Awards and will hopefully be back again next year!

Here are some of the photos from the evening

6/01/2014  |  The Twelfth Night

It's that time of year again when all the Christmas decorations need to be packed up and put away until next christmas.

When the Christmas decorations are up, it's hard to imagine the house without them.

Ours always seems empty and boring when it's been stripped of all things Christmassy.

This year, to try and fill the Christmassy hole, we've replaced our Christmas decorations with wheat sheaves combined with dried lavender and dried roses.

Wheat Sheaves

Wheat sheaves make a nice alternative to flowers and look beautiful as the centre piece to any dinner party or simply to brighten up the kitchen table.

Some of my Christmas decorations have avoided being packed into boxes.... I love my confetti baubles so much that I've swapped the confetti so that I can keep them above my desk all year!

All year round baubles

The festive season may be officially over, but why not try out a few of our decorative ideas to brighten up your house this January.

January's mix of the month is a combination of Icing Sugar, Bluebird, Frosted Blue and Envy.
