Top 10 Wedding Trends for 2020

As the year begins, all of us here at Shropshire Petals are more excited than ever to help you celebrate your big day! If you are getting married this year and need some inspiration take a look at this year's top wedding trends for some ideas!

1. Eco Weddings

Sustainability was hot on the agenda last year and this shows no sign of changing in 2020! More and more couples are opting for eco-friendly and sustainable choices for their big day; focusing on the environmental impact of your wedding is THE key trend this year.

For many couples this has included not only making the big day an anti- plastic affair, but also making more ethical and conscious decisions around sourcing food locally and picking décor that can be reused or recycled easily.

Here at Shropshire Petals, sustainability is important to us too! That is why our dispatch boxes are from 80% recycled sources and all of our bags and individual sachets are carbon neutral!

2. Inclusive Food

Food brings everyone together and for 2020 we are seeing wedding food getting even more personal and interactive. Long gone are the days of "chicken or fish" with many couples now offering sharing boards and desert tables in place of a rigid three course meal.

This can also help cater for fussier or "free from" guests who may prefer to choose their own food or nibble from maze boards or grazing tables - it will also take some of the stress out of table planning!

3. Princess Gowns

Princess gowns are making a comeback for 2020, reminiscent of styles last seen in the 80s and 90s. This year, the dresses are about taking more of a risk and wearing something a bit different which makes a statement!

Many of the styles for 2020 feature puff ball sleeves, layers of tulle, intricate embroidery topped with an endless veil or extravagant Barrettes a la Princess Diana in her custom Emanuel dress in 1981.

4. Something Blue

The Pantone colour for this year is 19-4052 or Classic Blue.

Pair this year's classic blue with rustic bouquets of dried flowers in red and orange for a bold autumnal feel - or with gold for something more opulent. Alternatively, add a splash of blue to your wedding with our Midnight Bloom delphinium petals, or navy coloured confetti cones.

5. Videography Welcome

Where once a photographer would do, now more and more couples are also capturing their big day on film!

6. Barrettes and Combs

Although many brides still choose the veil for their big day, more often were now seeing combs and barrettes adorned with rustic wildflowers or adorned with jewels. This can be an easy way of saving a bit of extra money, with easy tutorials for beautiful barrettes.

7. A new twist on flowers

This year, we also expect to see more focus on flowers with stunning blooms now being used in more unconventional ways. Sculptures and installations are replacing last year's flower walls, while flowers are also making their way into food, drink and even frozen in cubes of ice.

8. Self-service refreshments

Along with a more relaxed atmosphere towards dining, self-service refreshments are a key trend for 2020! Prosecco walls and barrel bars are a perfect addition to a casual or rustic wedding and can be quite reasonable (just check the corkage fee at your venue!)

9. Statement décor

Opulent, OTT and bold are the best way to describe wedding décor for this year! Full, busy table decorations and bouquets are on the rise this year with many opting for statement colours, overly adorned tables and large flower installations. Bold colours and miss matched materials are set to be commonplace this year, producing a maximalist vibe which contrasts to the minimalist trends we have seen in recent years.

10. Getting personal

Personal touches are the key to make any wedding special and connect with your guests. 2020 will see this taken even further however with custom messages on veils like Hailey Bieber, more personal venue choices and even invitations printed on recycled paper with soy ink.
