Daisy and Jim's Proposal Story

"It was our 3 year anniversary! First a bit of background, our very first date Jim took me canoeing as he thought this was a good idea. He can't swim and it was snowing. It was freezing cold and he forgot to tell me to dress warmly.

Anyway, the river was far too flooded and the rush of water capsized our canoe! I had to swim to rescue him from the water and dive back in to get the canoe and our stuff. We laugh about it now, but I always said I'd never get in a canoe again. Three years later he said he'd booked a surprise and we show up by a canoe again. I really didn't want to go and I was scared of getting in it, but he said he'd packed a picnic for halfway. So we paddle down the river and sure enough, the picnic was wonderful! He'd put so much thought into it and while on the picnic I opened up a cupcake box to find my great-great grandmother's diamond ring inside! We had a small bottle of champagne and decided to head back to the base, but the weather suddenly turned, and a storm hit with very high winds, sleet and hail. We had to make an emergency shelter out of the canoe and wait to be picked up in a 4x4, but this time I didn't really mind his disastrous attempt at a 'date'... but the future dates are definitely planned by me!"

Bethan and Steven's Proposal Story

"Steven was working in Berlin over New Years and told me I just HAD to come out to celebrate the New Year in style, so I jumped on a plane and met him after his shift. It was just before New Years there are fireworks going off everywhere... and I mean everywhere! In Germany it is legal to buy and set off fireworks wherever you like so everyone was doing it! Someone set off a firework around 200 yards away from us which they dropped and it flew into us! And a spark shot into my eye! Steven, my hero, walked me through the crowd where we tried to explain the situation in our worst German to a police officer. As we sat waiting for an ambulance in a safe bus station Steven said "you know what I've got in my pocket don't you?" to which I replied it would be the worst proposal ever if I couldn't even see him get down on one knee! Let alone the ring! So the ring stayed in his pocket while I was rushed off to A&E. Luckily I was alright and we returned to the UK and to normality. A month and a half later we bought our first home together, and on our first night in our home Steven proposed, and of course I said YES." (Photo taken just before the firework hit)

Kat and Matt's Proposal Story

"After 11 years together, we were on an adventure holiday of a lifetime in Chile and Argentina. We arrived in El Chalton, a little Swiss-style village used as a base for hiking. We woke early the next morning to take on a tough 10 hour round trip hike through the stunning scenery. As we got to the very top of Mount Fitz Roy, we came to the top of a scree ledge overlooking the glacier and glacial lake. It was stunning. I was pretty tired, cold and hungry so I turned around as if to go down. He said "let's climb down the scree and take some good pictures by the lakes edge" (angling to get a quiet spot where no new arrivals would see us). I was a little hangry but did it slightly more willingly after I got a cookie for my troubles. After a whole load of "photos" he found another "perfect photo angle" right back up the scree slope.. I nearly threw a strop! Once at the top I turned to go back, but he stood still with his rucksack on the floor and I thought "he's trying to have the cookies without me!" I walked back over, he said to "close your eyes"- I did and held out my hand for a cookie... when I opened my eyes he had the ring out and popped the question! We had the most wonderful remaining 5 hours on the mountain, just us, and I was no longer stroppy or hungry!"

Nicole and Christian's Proposal Story

"We'd planned a big trip to London to celebrate my 22nd birthday and our 4 year anniversary in October 2018. We did some sightseeing, ate some great food (pizzas, pies and donuts) and went to a jazz evening at Ronnie Scott's in Soho. It was an incredible weekend and I was sad to be leaving on the Sunday. We decided to grab some breakfast and go for a walk round Hampstead Heath that morning, and I remember Christian insisting on carrying the coffees (I later found out this was to hide the ring box in his breast pocket!). We arrived at the Heath, the sun was shining and we were cheerfully making our way through the beautiful pergola, when we saw an entire bridal party walking through the gardens. Christian's face was a picture! We were standing in a secluded spot, admiring the view and talking about the bride and the wedding that was obviously going on, when Christian turned to me and asked me to marry him. I thought he was joking at first, suggesting that we should crash this wedding and get married ourselves, so I answered; 'sure thing, right now?'. He looked quite surprised and explained that he was actually asking me to marry him (for real!!), so I cried and he cried and he got down on one knee and brought out this beautiful sapphire and diamond ring. Of course I said yes (about a million times), and we took some pictures and laughed a lot. On our way back to the train station we stopped in at a coffee shop for a hot chocolate (my first engaged drink!) - now every time we go to Hampstead Heath we have to stop there and buy the same thing and reminisce on the most amazing day ever."
