Shropshire Grown Lavender

It's been a busy few weeks here at Shropshire Petals, we've been picking our flower fields so we can dry the petals to make gorgeous biodegradable confetti. But that's not all we do! We've also been hand picking our own dried flower bunches to be used for floral arrangements, DIY projects and even home decorations, and even picking Shropshire grown lavender too.

Harvesting Lavender

Not only are the lavender fields stunning to look at, with their rolling rows of beautiful blue and purple colour tones, but they smell divine too. It's enough to send you into a restful night's sleep!

When it comes to harvesting the lavender, it's pretty back breaking work, but by picking the lavender just when it's at its peak, and carefully cutting it by hand, we ensure our lavender is top notch quality. Only the best for you.

Not only do us humans love the look and smell of lavender, but pollinators like bees love it too! Whilst picking the lavender you can hear a wonderful symphony of bees, hard at work collecting pollen. With pollinators needing our help more than ever, it's vital that we all support British growers as in turn it supports British wildlife too. If you want to create a haven for pollinators in your own garden, planting some lavender is a great start.

Did you know the name 'lavender' originates from ancient Rome? It means, 'to wash' Lavender played an important part in bathing rituals at the time, due to its antiseptic properties. Fascinating!

Dried Lavender

After we've picked all the bunches of lavender we need, we then hang them on stillages upside down to dry them out. This means they can store for years, to be used for lots of different things like, adding to our handmade dried flower arrangements, or bought as bunches to get creative and make your own bouquets or decorations at home. Not to mention, we also create beautiful mini lavender bundles that are perfect as wedding favours, pretty little gifts or even ideal decorations for present wrapping too.

Eco-friendly and low carbon footprint

We harvest Shropshire grown lavender to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible, making it far more environmentally friendly than lavender grown overseas. Not only do you know where your confetti comes from, but you know where your lavender comes from too.
