Follow the Bride #1 - Rose

Here at SP we're all very excited because we have a bride-to-be in the petal shed! Rose surprised us with her engagement on our first day back from our Christmas break, we were all delighted for her and it was lovely news to kick-start a new year at Shropshire Petals!

We will be following this lovely bride right up to her big day, getting the ins and outs and all the gossip of what goes in to planning the perfect wedding day.

Hi Rose, tell us a bit about yourself and your role at SP?

Hi I'm Rose, I have been working at SP for about 4 and a half years now. All our roles are quite varied, I generally manage the dispatch area but also make sure all our sales figures are on track. In the summer months I get to escape the office to go out into the field and manage the Harvest, looking after all the pickers and ensuring the petals are of the highest quality for all our lovely brides and grooms.

How did you and your husband to be meet?

My husband to be (still can't quite get used to that) is called Kit. He's from a farming family but is currently working at Harper Adams University doing some ground breaking research into robotic farming.

We met at a Young Farmers do nearly 8 years ago. I remember him serenading me to Oasis' Wonderwall, only to later find out he did that to all the girls, and telling me he would be a millionaire by the time he was 30, I'll keep dreaming!

Tell us about how Kit proposed?

For New Year we always go away with a group of friends, this year to Cornwall. On the morning of New Year's eve I decided we should get up early and go for a walk along the coast path with our Brittany Spaniel Scout. It turned out I was playing right into his hands as he was just about to suggest the same thing. Half way through our walk he disappeared round the side of a cliff and called me after him, just as he went down on one knee Scout decided to run a little too close to, but thankfully not off the edge!

What were your first thoughts after and has being engaged to Kit sunk in yet?

Even after 8 years together it came as a complete shock, I think I had thought it would never happen. It was so lovely to be away with all our friends and to be able to celebrate with everyone straight away. However I knew that I wanted to tell my family face to face so it was a struggle to keep the secret till we arrived back home a few days later - their reactions were worth it though.

Tell us about your beautiful engagement ring?

Kit designed the ring himself, as an engineer I think he found it the most exciting part! He sourced the diamonds from a holiday in Sri Lanka about 18 months ago and had been holding on to them ever since. He added an extra one in the middle from Hatton Garden in London before taking them to a local jeweller in our home town of Cirencester who put the whole thing together.

Have you set a day for the big day?

2nd June. Knew I wanted it at this time of year!

What preperations have you and Kit made and are you enjoying it so far?

As we are getting married quite quickly we had to be quite organised with all the big stuff, even working in the wedding industry I had no idea how far in advance you had to buy a dress and book up everyone! I'd always imagined getting married in my local childhood church and having the reception in my parent's garden so these were easy choices and definitely helped us in being able pick a date so soon. My family home means an awful lot to me, especially as we no longer live there, so this was a really important detail to us both. Now we are busy planning all the extra details - I have about a million different Pinterest boards, I wonder how people planned weddings before the internet? It's been great working all the Wedding Shows this season too, this has definitely helped with extra inspiration!

Stay tuned for the next blog where Rose will be talking about her colour scheme, wedding themes, invitations and her beautiful dress - how exciting!

Love as always SP xx
