When it comes to planning your wedding, the first things on your list will be the dress, the venue, the theme, but when do you decide on your wedding band? As you can imagine, bands can get booked up years in advance, so we have invited Adam from Bands for Hire to tell us all about what they do to help you to choose your wedding band.

Who we are

Bands for Hire is a live music agency based in the historic village of Easton on the Hill near Stamford.  With almost 15 years experience organising live bands and entertainment, we certainly know a thing or two about weddings as we now take bookings for thousands of weddings and events each year.

Every couple has their own tastes in music and with a growing roster featuring a diverse range of music in every genre, you are sure to find a band perfect for your wedding day. From cheese-tastic 80’s tributes to an all tracksuit wearing 90’s boy band, you certainly don’t have to stick to the ‘norm’; Bands for Hire represent such an eclectic range of acts to really turn on the magic and make your wedding day truly unique.

Using the search function, you can select the category you are looking for and the region in which you are based. You can then view the acts in your local area, listen to a sample of their music, read more about them, add them and others to your enquiry list and send an enquiry.

As an environmentally conscious company, we are working hard to find the best wedding bands in every corner of the UK to bring them all to you in one place. This not only cuts down on travelling and fuel, it keeps the costs down for you as a couple as you can view and source a band right from the comfort of your own home.

Head over to the website to start looking for your wedding band today.

Thank you Adam and Bands for Hire for sharing this with our readers.  We hope finding a band for your wedding will be a lot easier with Bands for Hire.

23/12/2016  |  Most popular day to propose

In a recent survey by Chillisauce where over 10,000 people were asked, they found that the most popular day to propose was Christmas Eve!

Christmas eve is the most popular day of the year to propose with 31% of the votes!

Despite being sold as the holiday of romance, Valentine's Day only received 12% of the votes, with New Year's Eve proving more popular with 19% and New Year's Day with 16% of the vote. The anniversary of the date a couple met also proved popular with 10% of overall votes, while Christmas Day came in second to last with only 7% of the votes.

Why is Christmas Eve the most popular day?

Christmas is all about spending time with your loved ones, giving presents and of course a time of magic in the air! December is romantic and so it's easy to see why the most popular day to propose is Christmas Eve.

Sandy Moretta, Director at UK Alliance of Wedding Planners and owner of ternevents, shares her professional experience and insight into why Christmas is so popular for proposals:

"Here at the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners we, and our members, hear the stories of many engagements which happen on Christmas Eve, or over the festive period. We take the majority of enquiries and bookings between January and March, soon after Christmas, then the Valentine's proposals follow. Two of the reasons the Christmas season is so magical is due to romance and family, two elements which proposals combine so perfectly."

So do the sexes agree?

As the saying goes, men are from mars and women are from venus, and this can be apparent when it comes to proposing too. Chillisauce asked men and women which day they'd prefer to propose and the results are very intriguing!

Are men popping the question too early? A third of the men quizzed think Christmas Eve is the best time to ask the question, whereas 23% of women actually prefer Valentine's Day.

20/12/2016  |  How to make Christmas Confetti Baubles

It's Christmas, time for a celebration! Why not incorporate natural petal confetti onto your Christmas tree? Here's our how to guide to making your very own festive confetti bauble.

First you'll need:

  • a handful of natural petal confetti
  • empty baubles
  • string
  • scissors

First of all start placing your confetti into one half of the bauble. The confetti we've used here is one of our popular mixes, Romeo and Juliet. It's made of cream delphinium petals and red rose petals.

You then add the same amount of petals into the other half of the bauble, making sure to fill them to the brim.

Fit both halves of the bauble together. The top of the bauble should align.

Cut yourself 10cm of string and thread it through the top of the bauble.

Tie the top of string with a double knot and cut any excess string.

You are ready to go with your Christmas confetti bauble!

Add your Christmas confetti bauble to your tree and enjoy!

Why not make several baubles with different confetti mixes? Below we've got Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge and Winter's Morn.

Enjoy making your christmas confetti bauble! Remember you can pick and mix any petals together using the SP pick and mix to match your christmas colours.

16/12/2016  |  Christmas Jumper Day

It's almost time for Christmas! With our last few days in the office before we close up for the winter break we couldn't help but put on our favourite Christmas jumpers and throw a little confetti around the place. Here's the SP team in the petal shed with our shed dogs too:

Oh course we had to get the shed dogs involved with our festive antics, they didn't seem to mind.

We've asked everyone in the SP shed what their favourite part of Christmas is and here's what they had to say:

"Endless amounts of sweet food! I love all the tasty cakes, chocolate and mince pies at Christmas time." - Rose

"My favourite part of Christmas is having my family around me." - Dawn

"Christmas movies with the family is just one of my favourite things to do during the holidays." - Katie

"Christmas dinner has to be my favourite." - Emma

"I love seeing all the fairy lights at Christmas, they're simply magical!" - Ashley

This year we've added a little Christmas fun to the petal shed, and we've hung some mini Christmas stockings filled with plenty of sweets to nibble on into the New Year!

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your friends and family!

14/12/2016  |  Pantone Colour for 2017

The 2017 Pantone Colour of the year has been announced as Greenery! A refreshing and revitalising shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.

Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature's greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

Greenery is nature's neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront - it is an omnipresent hue around the world.

A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.

What is the PANTONE Colour of the Year?

"A symbolic colour selection; a colour snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude." - Pantone

Here at SP we love Greenery and expect it to be a huge trend during 2017 for weddings! We've got the perfect throwing confetti to match too! Here's out Enchanted Woods, it's made of biodegradable natural petals that are 100% eco-friendly and beautiful!

Enchanted Woods is made up of light green hydrangea and gorgeous cream delphinium petals. This mix is perfect for throwing over the newly married couple and with so many way of displaying the confetti like a Shropshire Box, Confetti cones, Hessian Canvas Bag, Confetti Pop and so many more!

9/12/2016  |  Glitz and Glamour – Art Deco Confetti

Today we’re going all inspirational. We love the glitz and glamour of the popular and stylish Art Deco wedding theme at the moment. Art Deco themed weddings have been really popular in 2016, and are set to be even bigger in 2017.

What is Art Deco?

You’ve probably seen lots of inspiring Art Deco themed weddings on the blogs, in magazines and of course, on Pinterest. So what is Art Deco? Art Deco is the main decorative art style from the 1920s and 1930s. It is characterised by the distinctive bold geometric shapes and strong colours.

(credit: Pinterest)

The main colours you will see featured in Art Deco weddings are white, gold, black, green, dark blue and red (among others).

We have picked some of our favourite Art Deco, glitz and glamour images from Pinterest to share with you, accompanied by the confetti mixes we would choose for these weddings.

White, black and red

This wedding features the traditional white and black with bold hints of red, which really stand out.

(credit: Pinterest)

We have chosen a simple confetti combination of Icing Sugar, Black Tie and Lady in Red to complement this theme.

Navy and gold

We love navy and gold together, and isn’t this wedding invitation just fabulous. As well as being funky and creative, it gives guests a sense of what they will expect to see on the couples’ wedding day.

(credit: Pinterest)

Trying to match colours for every detail on your wedding day is a difficult task. So, when it comes to confetti, why not choose similar colours but brighter and bolder to really make an impact on your confetti photos. We have chosen a mix using Icing Sugar, Midnight Blue and Clementine.

Green, white, gold and blue

Who doesn’t love the colours in a peacock feather. Very 1920s and chic! The colours work perfectly together without being overbearing.

(credit: Pinterest)

To match these colours would be difficult, so we have chosen our Sunshine Kisses confetti mix and added some Frosted Blue delphinium petals. A pretty vibrant mix.  You could even add our Envy hydrangea petal for some green in the mix.

A mixture of colour

Go all colourful and enjoy a rainbow shower of confetti on your wedding day.

(credit: Pinterest)

Our Kaleidoscope confetti mix is perfect for any wedding, especially Art Deco. Kaleidoscope is a colourful rainbow of confetti featuring ivory, pink, purple and lilac. Why not use the Pick & Mix tool to create your own rainbow of confetti choosing from our wide selection of colours and petal types.

7/12/2016  |  Christmas Break

The SP team have worked hard all year around to make sure each bride and groom gets only the best biodegradable confetti for their confetti moment. We hope you agree it's time we had a little break, just in time for Christmas!

Shropshire Petals will be closed from Tuesday 20th December, and back open again on Wednesday 4th January 2017. Any orders placed during our Christmas shutdown will be dispatched in January when we're back, fresh as a daisy!

Here at SP we've got the stockings up, and the cheesy festive jumpers ready. Some of us still have to face the mad dash to the shops to scoop up last minute presents and write and send Christmas cards, but we're almost ready for the big day!

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at SP!

We'll still be available on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram if you have any burning questions, we might not be as quick at responding as we might be nibbling on Christmas Pud, but we'll do our best.

29/11/2016  |  Stylish Confetti

Here at Shropshire Petals, our confetti is often requested for use in photo shoots and styling projects. We were contacted by Louise from One Stylish Day to ask if she could use some of our confetti as part of her styling photo shoots for the launch of her brand-new event and styling business.

Louise is certainly one talented lady and we loved the shoots so much that we just had to share them with you.

The brief

Louise was planning to photograph a few different looks within her shoots, Moody Hues and Blush & Grey. Louise used our online pick and mix tool to see all of the petals we have on offer and chose Aubergine, Rose Buds, Daisy Daisy, Icing Sugar and Lady Grey.

Louise wanted to show how to use confetti as part of the overall wedding décor rather than for throwing confetti.

25/11/2016  |  How much confetti do I need for my wedding?

So you're planning your wedding day and you're not sure how much biodegradable petal confetti you should provide for your guests? Don't worry Shropshire Petals can help.

We usually find that providing enough natural petal confetti for at least half your guests will give you enough for that wow factor, plus we find the ladies throw more than the gents. If you think everyone will throw, why not provide enough for them all?

As our petals are so lightweight we measure our confetti by the litre, this makes it simple as approximately 10 handfuls is 1 litre.

In the photo below Katie and Nathan had 40 wedding guests and they wanted everyone to throw so they ordered 4 litres of Pink Lemonade confetti to get this amazing confetti moment!

Alternatively if you have 100 wedding guests and think half your guests might throw, 5 litres of confetti will be enough for 50 handfuls. Below is a step-by-step guide of how to use the Shropshire Petals Confetti Calculator, click here to try for yourself.

First you need to decide what your petals are for, we are going to select throwing confetti on this occasion, but you can come back if you're thinking of having table confetti, a petal path down the aisle or even a few flower girls for your big day.

Once you've selected how you'd like to use your confetti, you simply use the slider to show how many wedding guests you have attending. You can even select if you think everyone will throw, just half or even a quarter of your guests.

Once you've entered all the info into the calculator it will show you a recommended amount of confetti. Just remember you can still go back to change any numbers or answers if you're not sure at this stage. Also, you can always choose to have more confetti and use any left over confetti to go into your wedding album, or inside your wedding photo frame as a momento of the day.

If you're still not sure how much confetti you might need for your big day, you can give us a call on 01952 691553 or drop us an email at enquiries@shropshirepetals.co.uk we are always happy to help.

22/11/2016  |  DIY Confetti Necklaces – perfect for your Bridesmaids

And they have done it again – those wonderful girls at Bespoke Bride have once again proved that confetti isn’t just for throwing at a wedding.  They have made some beautiful natural petal confetti necklaces – perfect for special bridesmaid gifts.

Today, we are sharing how Bespoke Bride made these pretty confetti necklaces:

You will need:

  • Natural petal confetti in your choice of colours
  • A pendant kit (Bespoke Bride ordered theirs from Ebay)
  • Chains for your pendants
  • All-purpose glue

Step 1

Choosing the petals you want within your necklace, carefully place them within your pendant.

Step 2

Use your all-purpose glue to glue around the edge of your glass cabochons, and then place them firmly over the top of your petals within the pendant.

Step 3

Allow the glue to dry, then thread your pendant through the silver chain.

Step 4

Repeat as necessary for as many necklaces you want to make.

Be as creative as you like and why not personalise them for each recipient.

Petals used

Bespoke Bride used a combination of Amethyst, Candy Floss and Icing Sugar inside the necklaces, then styled them for photographs using Cherry Blossom, Icing Sugar and Honey’B, which are all available to buy via our pick & mix tool.

18/11/2016  |  The low down: 5 top confetti colours from the autumn wedding shows

During the autumn and the spring, the petal shed can be very quiet at times as most of us are off setting up and exhibiting at wedding shows around the country. We love taking Shropshire Petals off out on the road, scatting petals for everyone to see.

Today we’re sharing the top 5 confetti colours brides-to-be chose at the autumn wedding shows this year to give you some inspiration when choosing yours.

Autumnal berries

One of our newest confetti mixes, Moulin Rouge was a huge hit at the shows. It was very popular for those planning autumn 2017 weddings as it is made up using Burgundy Berry cornflower petals and our ivory Icing Sugar delphiniums. Whether you’re planning an autumn wedding or a burgundy and white wedding, Moulin Rouge is great for adding a splash of rich colour to your confetti moment.

Year round favourite

One of our all time biggest selling mixes is Summer Nights. A delicate blend of ivory, pale pink and pale blue, it is perfect for any wedding, no matter when you’re wedding is. This pretty mix is subtle, yet will give you that colourful shower of petals you are looking for.

Summer sunshine

Most couples would love sunshine on their wedding day, which is why our Coral Reef confetti mix was another that many wedding show visitors choose to take away as their free sample. Coral Reef is a bright combination of ivory, pale pink and orange, guaranteed to add a touch of summer sunshine to your special day. This mix is not only beautiful when thrown; it also looks fabulous when used for decorating a petal path or on your reception tables.

Multi-coloured pastels

Pastel colours are set to be a big trend again in 2017, but with the added twist of combining several different pastel colours with complementing bright tones. One question we get asked a lot at the wedding shows is “can I choose more than four colours in a pick and mix”, the answer is yes. We recommend buying all of the colours separately or a few different pick and mixes to mix together yourself.

Best seller

By far, the most requested mix at the weddings shows is our all-time biggest seller Kaleidoscope. A colourful mix of ivory, dark blue, lilac and hot pink, couples love this mix as it gives that colourful wow factor confetti moment. Use Kaleidoscope for decorating your venue as well as throwing by scattering on crisp white tablecloths to continue your colourful theme from ceremony to reception.

If you would like a sample these mixes or any other colours, order your on our FREE sample page today.

10/11/2016  |  Match your confetti with your wedding theme

Ever wonder how to bring together your wedding colours from your initial announcement to the big day? Why not tie in your confetti colours to your wedding invitation? Charlotte and Andrew did just that for their beautiful wedding last month in Staffordshire.

The lovely couple chose an autumn woodland theme for their big day, with a fairytale twist. Their main wedding colours were rose gold and navy with lots of autumnal colours in between like orange, burgundy and green.

For the big day they chose to have a Shropshire Box with Navy cones and provided enough confetti for at least half of their guests to throw as they walked out of the church.

The biodegradable petals they chose for their throwing confetti were Burgundy Berry, Black Tie, Raspberry Fool, Honey 'B and Icing Sugar.

They also had three flower girls with small wicker baskets holding a mixture of larger petals Bramble and Cerise to scatter down the isle as Charlotte the bride walked down. All these petal colours followed the autumn woodland theme and perfectly matched their wedding invitations to guests too.

Charlotte and Andrew even scattered some of their petals onto the wedding tables to represent falling leaves.

If you are thinking of matching your confetti petals with your wedding theme you can request your free confetti sample here. Or you could pick and mix your petals here. If you've already decided the petals you'd like for your wedding day you can even order online today and select our delayed deliver so we only ship your petals to you 3 weeks before the big day.

14/10/2016  |  Why should I provide confetti for my wedding

Your confetti shot is usually the most natural and fun photo taken on your wedding day. You can get all your wedding guests involved in your confetti moment, especially the children! Throwing confetti always brings a smile to your guests faces too!

Here at SP we're sometimes asked by brides why they need to provide their own confetti. Here's our top 3 reasons why you need to provide confetti for your big day:

  1. You can tailor your confetti to your wedding colours, making sure even your finishing touches match your colour scheme and fit with your theme. Here at Shropshire Petals we offer an online pick and mix tool that allows you to mix your perfect petals to make your unique biodegradable throwing confetti.

  2. Most venues nowadays ask for you to use biodegradable petal confetti, as it's eco-friendly, doesn't harm the environment and so if you don't plan ahead of time you might find your guests could bring some confetti that they might not be able to throw. If you're concerned about your venue allowing you to throw your confetti, you can request a free confetti sample to show your venue.

  3. If you rely on your guests to bring their own confetti they might not remember on the day and you could find you don't have anywhere near enough confetti to get your amazing confetti shot to look back on for years to come. We have an online confetti calculator to work out exactly how much confetti you'd need for your big day.

Make sure you get your perfect confetti moment for your big day! If you need any further advice, we have lots of ideas and advice here at Shropshire Petals just visit us online.

11/10/2016  |  Autumn blooms: match your confetti to your bouquet

Two down and one to go, we love chatting to brides-to-be at the National Wedding Shows, giving confetti advice for their weddings. So far this show season, we've had lots of brides asking about autumn themed weddings, so today we talking all about how to match your confetti to your autumn wedding bouquet.

Orange, burgundy and green

Typical autumn colours, this bright bouquet features gorgeous orange, burgundy and green tones. These colours stand out perfectly when walking down the aisle.

Shropshire Petals pick and mix - we have had a play with our pick and mix tool and choosing a mix of Ginger Snap, Burgundy Berry and Envy would compliment this bright bouquet.

Cerise, aubergine, green and blue

Autumn is the season for getting creative. We love this bouquet featuring cerise pink, aubergine and green with a delicate hint of blue. Using a variety of colours on your wedding day will give you the freedom to use colourful details to decorate your venue as well.

Shropshire Petals pick and mix - we have chosen to incorporate all four colours featured in this bouquet by mixing Cherry Blossom, Blue Bird, Envy and Aubergine.

White, purple and blue

(Image source: Pinterest - Pinterest - online flower.co.uk)

This bouquet reminds us of a sunny autumn sky. With hints of blue and purple, these darker colours really make the white stand out, at the same time as keeping the bouquet subtle not to detract the attention away from the bride.

Shropshire Petals pick and mix - we have created a mix that will make the blues and purples stand out on your confetti photos by combining Icing Sugar, Midnight Blue, Amethyst and Frosted Blue.

Yellow, burgundy and mauve

(Image source: Pinterest - Hi Miss Puff)

Including hints of sunshine in your autumn wedding is the perfect way to brighten up even the darkest of autumn days. This pretty bouquet featured large yellow sunflowers with burgundy and mauve tones.

Shropshire Petals pick and mix - we love how yellow really enhances other colours, so we have chosen a mix of Icing Sugar, Burgundy Berry, Delilah with Honey'b for a stunning confetti mix perfect for your autumn wedding. Add a sprinkling of this mix to your reception tables to carry the theme through.

The wedding aisle

Are you having a Halloween wedding? Why not use pumpkins to make an aisle for you to walk down. Team these with some dried leaves or some additional orange and green confetti - simply stunning!

If you're getting married this autumn, head to our pick and mix tool now to create your unique confetti mix.

Don't forget our October mix of the month is also a great choice for autumn weddings. Made up using Icing Sugar, Ginger Snap, Burgundy Berry and Black Tie.

20/09/2016  |  DIY Floral Confetti Ice Bucket

We love sending our petals to the girls at Bespoke Bride who get creative and make wonderful items using natural petal confetti for our sponsored blog post with them. This time, they have made a stunning DIY confetti ice bucket – showing that confetti is not just for throwing!

If you search Pinterest for Ice Buckets, you’ll see lots of fresh fruit ice buckets, so the girls decided to give natural petal confetti a try and what they have made is simply devine!

Today, we are sharing how Bespoke Bride made theirs:

You will need:

  • Natural petal confetti in your choice of colours
  • 1 large bucket
  • 1 smaller bucket (it needs to fit inside the large bucket, and big enough to hold a bottle)
  • Stones

Step 1

Fill the large bucket with 2/3 inches of water and freeze.

Step 2

Once frozen, place the smaller bucket inside the large one and weigh it down with stones to ensure it doesn’t float when you add more water.

Step 3

Add water in between the two buckets and pack with your chosen natural petal confetti. Allow to freeze. This will create the first ring of petals.

Step 4

Once frozen, fill the remaining space with water, pack with confetti and freeze again, leaving it overnight.

Step 5

Remove the inner bucket – take out the stones and fill the bucket with hot water, letting it sit a while. Pour it out and run warm water all around the outside of the larger bucket to loosen it up until your ice bucket comes out.

Hey presto! You have made your very own DIY confetti ice bucket.  Remember, when you display it on your big day, pop it into a tray or container to catch the melting ice.

Now all you have to do is to choose your confetti. Head to the pick and mix tool to choose your colours.

Get creative and see if you can make patterns or smaller rings of petals in your ice bucket. We’re all going to give this ago here at Shropshire Petals – post your photos on Facebook if you have a go too!

Love as always, SP x x

16/09/2016  |  The SP Photoshoot

Once a year we love to refresh our confetti photographs so we call in the professionals, the wonderfully talented Goldings Photography team. This year our photoshoot fell in July and we managed to shoot on one of the most beautiful days of the year! The perfect weather to set up the shoot in our glorious flower field, surrounded by our delphinium and wildflowers.

In true Shropshire Petals style we managed to get all our props, confetti and models onto the flower field with the help of the farm landrovers. Here's a quick snap of us setting up with all the vehicles in a row.

David and Lois from Goldings Photography were brilliant throughout our photoshoot, they just totally understood what we wanted and despite it being one of the hottest days of the year nothing was too much trouble.  We set up a country themed scene for the morning shoot, focusing on wedding styling and different ways of incorporating confetti into your big day.

All the models we used for the day were from our lovely SP team, below we've got from left to right Jemima, Rose, Katie and Ioana, as you can see they had a lot of fun with the Shropshire Petals biodegradable petal confetti!

We managed to get a few photos of our some of our brand new products including the confetti balloons! Watch this space for more about these exciting new products.

We even managed to get Lois onto one of our big JCB diggers to get a cracking shot of the Shropshire Petals team! Glad she's not too afraid of heights as it's a wonderful photo.

We hope you've enjoyed a glimpse into our photoshoot!

9/09/2016  |  Winner of the Maid of Honour Competition!

We recently asked you to tell us why your Maid of Honour is the bee's knees, we were looking for amazing stories of friendship, love, selflessness and comedy. The winning bride wins a relaxing Champneys spa break for her and her maid of honour.

Thank you to everyone who entered our incredible Maid of Honour Competition! We were so impressed with the huge amount of effort everyone put into their entries. It has been so incredibly difficult to choose from so many heartwarming and funny stories, you've made us laugh and cry but alas there could only be one winner.

Congratulations to Grace Nichols for nominating your best friend Helen Storey as your Maid of Honour! You are our winner!

We love Grace's entry because we could totally relate to everything she shared with us. Here's Grace's nomination for her wonderful friend Helen as her Maid of Honour:

"She's driven around High Wycombe with me, windows down, Jaheim blasting out. She's spent lunch times shooting hoops, teaching me to play lacrosse or even more amusingly, how to dive (I still can't).

She's hung around, as my wing lady, waiting for me to meet up with some guy I met at a club a week earlier. She's danced like crazy, in a club, in the street, in Subway at 2am because I thought it was funny.

She's spent her free periods making up games or racing me on wheely chairs, because that's so much more fun than doing work.

She's sat on kitchen work tops eating sandwiches after a night out, putting the world to right.

She's forgiven me for that time I sat on her cat. She's called me up drunk and upset after getting with some guy she really liked, who had a girlfriend and then punching a wall.

She's travelled across America with me on the best road of my life. She's rescued me from knocking myself unconscious after a little too much wine. She's never let me live it down for throwing up on her dad. She even asked me to be her maid of honour.

I love her to the moon and back. My maid of honour. X"

Grace and her head maid Helen will both be heading off for a top Champneys spa break, which includes one nights stay, a tour of the resort and a nutritious welcome drink, use of the resort facilities, access to exercise classes, a healthy buffet breakfast, three course buffet lunch and evening meal, a 25 minute Champneys Treatment, as well as complimentary robe hire and flip flops - worth over £400!

Well done Grace! Also, thank you again to everyone that entered, we really were overwhelmed with the response, it's been amazing! We had to share just a few wonderful photos from some of the many entries that were sent in, thanks for taking part!

30/08/2016  |  Emma's Confetti Harvest

Hi everyone! I'm Emma and during the summer I'm one of the Shropshire Petals Field Supervisors. Today I'm taking over the SP blog to tell you all about how your beautiful natural confetti is harvested by hand here on the farm.

All of our petals are carefully harvested by hand by a fantastic team of workers who pick the best flowers available. The whole field team also gets to experience Shropshire Petals outside of the field, so everyone understands just how important perfect confetti is. Ioana, who is the second harvest supervisor (and picking expert may I add!) even had our Summer Nights mix at her own wedding in Romania earlier this year.

How our harvest gets started

After a few reluctant bursts of English sunshine we kicked off the flower harvest in late June, starting with our Honey'B and Ginger Snap calendula petals. We then got to move on to our cornflowers (including Blue Bird and Black Tie) and delphiniums (Icing Sugar, Frosted Blue, Candy Floss and Raspberry Fool to name a few) as they all came into bloom over the following weeks and months. You can see just how bright and vibrant the calendula was when it was picked.

A typical day in the field

A typical harvest morning starts with a bright and early 6am start in the field where the whole team gets straight into full swing until normally 3pm or 4pm in the afternoon.

The field team is split into smaller teams of typically six people, this enables more of our beautiful petals to be picked efficiently whilst keeping everyone happy and motivated.

Our petals are picked come rain or shine, so unfortunately we've also had to deal with some predictable English rainy days which have made the long hours in the field a little harder. We have however been really lucky to have some lovely weather and stunning morning sunrises, whilst being surrounded by truly beautiful flowers (if we may say so ourselves) and glorious wildlife.

There are two harvest supervisors in the field (myself being one of them - yay!) and it is our job to make sure every member of the field team is happy and picking the best petals for your confetti. As you can see in the picture below I'm busy checking the crates of freshly picked flowers for consistency and quality (too busy to notice Ashley snapping away with her camera).

As field supervisor, I've also had chance to be hands on and pick some of the flowers myself which I've really enjoyed. It has really helped me understand all the hours of work and the process behind getting confetti from our field to your wedding.

Shropshire Petals is always trialling new flowers and looking for new colours to bring to your confetti mixes. A favourite of mine this year has been our new petal Burgundy Berry, one of our cornflowers which as you can see from my photo below the bees seem to quite like too!

Back to the shed until next year…

The harvest certainly has been hard work for everyone involved, but the beautiful natural petal confetti we have to show for it has definitely been worth it!

Confetti_Harvest_11The flower harvest is all wrapped up for 2016, which means all the pretty petals are now being carefully stored ready for weddings in the upcoming months. It also means I will be back in the Petal Shed, speaking to our lovely brides to be on the phone, look forward to speaking to you soon!

Lots of love,
Emma, the field team and the SP girls in the Shed x

Here at Shropshire Petals we are always on the look out for new confetti colours and we listen to what our brides are telling us. That's why we are so pleased to introduce not just one, but two new petal colours and a brand new mix which we think is going to be very popular for autumnal weddings!

All these petal colours are grown on our Shropshire Farm. They're all natural, biodegradable and available to order by themselves or mixed with any other petals using our Pick and Mix to make the perfect confetti moment.

Cherry Blossom

Cherry Blossom is a beautiful bright pink delphinium petal that is perfect for throwing by itself or mixed with other petals for that wow factor! We love Cherry Blossom for fushia wedding themes. We find pink colour themes are very popular for weddings due to their association with love, plus pink is always in fashion giving it a timeless confetti moment to look back on in years to come.

Burgundy Berry

This brand new natural petal is a cornflower, it's rich in colour and makes a huge impact to any confetti mix. Burgundy Berry is a deep plum red colour and is natural and biodegradable. We think this petal is perfect for throwing confetti when mixed with delphinium petals to give it the most impressive impact. Burgundy Berry is ideal for weddings with a colour scheme featuring merlot, mulberry or sangria because of its rich colour.

Moulin Rouge

We recommend the best confetti mixes feature delphinium and cornflowers as the layering of petal sizes create a wonderful confetti photos. Moulin Rouge is a combination of our brand new Burgundy Berry petals with Icing Sugar and it's the ideal choice for weddings with a hint of cream and burgundy. This sensual confetti mix is sophisticated and seductive.

We'd love to hear what you think of our beautiful new petal colours, get in touch with us on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

Use our Pick and Mix option to combine your favourite colour petals to make your unique confetti mix here.

16/08/2016  |  A thought for the humble-bumbles and our other pollinating pals

Here at Shropshire Petals, we love this time of year when our fields are in full bloom and full of buzzing wildlife.  Bees are very welcome in our fields as good pollination is important to our flower field development and likewise, our flowers are important to increasing the bee population.  We recently got in touch with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust to give us some information about our buzzing friends to share with you.  We are pleased to welcome Darryl Cox from the Bumblebee Conservation Trust to guest feature on today's blog:

Common carder bee (Bombus pascuorum) about to land on lavender.

A world without bumblebees would be a very different world than the one we live in today. Crop yields would be greatly reduced, food prices would most probably rise and the number of people suffering from malnourishment would no doubt rise too. Bumblebees are really that important.

Buff-tail bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) queen visiting a crocus.

Scientists say that on average one in every three mouthfuls of what we eat is pollinated by insects and it is the most nutritious stuff that they are responsible for – tomatoes, beans, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, apples, pears, and almonds to name but a few. They even play a hand in creating the shirts on our backs – by aiding the pollination of cotton. Of all of the insects carrying out this invaluable service; bumblebees are probably our most productive. They are perfect for our climate, built to withstand wind, rain and cold; they battle through the elements to collect nectar and pollen to feed their relatives, pollinating crops and precious wildflowers as they go. They also have special skills and adaptations which mean they can feed from a wider variety of flowers than other insects – meaning they can provide their pollination services for multiple floral clients.

Bumblebees may carry the flowery flag for floral fertilisation, but they are by no means the only pollinators on our UK shores. Our 25 resident bumblebee species have many co-habiting cousins, including the honeybee and over 225 solitary bees which all play their role, and we cannot forget the moths, butterflies, hoverflies, wasps, flies, and beetles which all help contribute to making sure our wildflowers and crops continue to flourish.

White-tailed bumblebee (Bombus lucorum) worker visiting a globe thistle

The fact is that without bumblebees and other pollinators; many of our plants would find reproduction a struggle, causing irreversible problems for animals which rely on them for food and shelter – including ourselves. Sadly this scenario is more real than it should be, over the last 80 years, two bumblebee species have gone extinct from our shores and a third of our social bumblebee species have declined by over to 70%. This is mostly down to habitat loss which has been driven by changes in agricultural practices. It has been estimated that we have lost over a staggering 97% of our wildflower rich grassland meadows since the 1940’s, leaving our precious pollinators with little to feed on. When combined with new pressures like climate change, pesticide exposure, and the threats from parasites and diseases, the future is looking rather grim for our flower-visiting friends.

Wildflower areas like this have declined dramatically in the last 80 years, leaving bumblebees and other pollinators with very little to feed on

However, all is not lost.

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust and its members, volunteers and supporters are dedicated to reversing these declines and protecting bumblebees and other pollinators for future generations. They are working towards a future filled with colourful wildflowers in which pollinating insects and the ecosystems they provide for are able to thrive – and we can all play our part too. Bees need flowers and flowers need bees – it’s called a symbiotic relationship and it is one that we should all be desperately keen to support. You don’t need much space to be able to help – even a window box will do, and you can find out exactly which flowers are best to use by using the Bumblebee Conservation Trust’s free BeeKind tool.

This year, like Shropshire Petals, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust is celebrating its 10th year anniversary and is hoping to grow its membership base of like-minded people, with a genuine concern for the future of these charismatic insects to 10,000 members. To find out more about the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and how you can support this vital work, please visit www.bumblebeeconservation.org.

By Darryl Cox, Science and Policy Officer, Bumblebee Conservation Trust

Thank you Darryl for sharing that with us.

10/08/2016  |  Proud to support team GB

The Rio 2016 Olympics are in full swing and everyone's taking about it! Here at Shropshire Petals we'd like to wish our Team GB the best of luck and hope all their hard work pays off.

This time four years ago we were celebrating the London 2012 games and supporting the Team GB with our wheat!

Jane Packer, one of the world's most influential florists, was selected to design and produce the 'Victory Bouquet' which was presented to the medal winners during the Victory Ceremonies London 2012. The bouquet was designed to reflect the energy and vibrancy of the London 2012 Games. SP were over the moon when we were asked to contribute our homegrown wheat to the bouquet.

Bouquet designer Susan Lapworth, Jane Packer's creative director used British grown flowers and herbs to create the unique, beautiful Victory bouquet.

The bouquet was sectioned into brightly coloured quadrants to mirror the 2012 logo. The sections were separated by British grown food ingredients; English Lavender, Rosemary, Apple Mint and Wheat, which provided the bouquet with a beautiful fragrance.

Here at Shropshire Petals we grow and produce Wheat, Natural Petal Confetti and other Dried Flowers. Our wheat is used to produce stunning wheat sheaves, perfect for decorating the home, wedding and event venues. Here's a few snaps of our wheat growing on our Shropshire farm.

Wheat is a great natural product that can be used for decoration, especially when adding other natural, dried flowers such as Lavender, Roses and Thistles. These will add a splash of natural colour and an extra special touch to a wheat sheaf, bundle or buttonhole. Visit us online to see our entire wheat sheaf range

5/08/2016  |  Wedding traditions from around the world

With the start of the Rio 2016 Olympics it's a great time to take a look at how different cultures celebrate their greatest achievements. Here at SP we thought we'd take a look at how other countries celebrate their wedding day!

Here's our top 10 wedding traditions from around the world:

The bride and groom release two doves on their wedding day to represent a long, peaceful and harmonious life together.

Norwegian weddings traditionally have a tower of iced almond cake rings for their wedding cake called a kransekake.

Some Polish traditions invite the guests to buy a dance with the bride on the wedding day, with the money going toward the couple's honeymoon.

In Germany friends and family of the bride and groom smash porcelain and crockery the night before the wedding to bring luck to the couple's marriage.

The bride and groom in France traditionally eat chocolate and champagne after the reception from a toilet bowl to give them strength before the wedding night.

In Fiji a man presents his future father-in-law with a whale's tooth in order to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage.

Brides and their female guests in India often have their skin dyed with intricate henna designs to represent love, joy and hope.

In the Congo the bride and groom are not allowed to smile during the entire wedding day to prove how serious they are about their marriage.

The bride's family hire a woman to care for her as she travels to the wedding, also known as a 'good-luck' woman.

In Russia the newly married couple share a sweetbread called Karavaya which is decorated with wheat for prosperity and interlocking rings for faithfulness.

All these traditions sound like lots of fun for the newly married couple, but our favourite tradition is throwing confetti over the bride and groom, but maybe we're biased!

29/07/2016  |  The Hidden Meaning Behind Wedding Traditions

Have you ever wondered why we throw confetti over a newly married couple? Or what the meaning behind the age old saying of 'something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue' is?

Ingle and Rhode have created these charming vintage infographics to explain everything you need to know about the hidden meaning behind our most beloved wedding traditions.

Ingle & Rhode design stunning jewellery made in the UK by some of the most respected craftsmen and women in the industry. They use only ethically sourced precious metals and gems, such as Fairtrade gold and Canadian diamonds.

Established in 2006 when David Rhode was looking for an engagement ring but couldn't find a jeweller who could tell him where their diamonds had come from, or the conditions under which they were produced. Ingle & Rhode was set up by Tim Ingle and David Rhode to be the ethical alternative to the traditional luxury brands. Click here to view their beautiful range

22/07/2016  |  Flower of the Month: Larkspur

July's flower of the month is Larkspur! Here at Shropshire Petals, we love Larkspur, we love it so much we grow Larkspur on our farm and add it to natural confetti for the perfect petal combination. Here's some of our Larkspur in the field growing!

Larkspur is the common name for Delphinium flowers and is grown in the Northern Hemisphere and even on the high mountains of tropical Africa! The name delphinium derives from the Latin for 'Dolphin' referring to the shape of the nectary.

To make sure we have lots of varied colour petals to offer our couples we grow lots of different colours of Larkspur on our Shropshire farm including:

Candy Floss - perfect for soft pink confetti petals

Icing Sugar - perfect for white and cream confetti petals

Raspberry Fool - perfect for pink confetti petals

Frosted Blue - perfect for light blue confetti petals

Amethyst - perfect for blue and purple confetti petals

Midnight Blue - perfect for blue/purple confetti petals

Lady Grey - perfect for vintage themed confetti petals

Larkspur is perfect for throwing confetti as the petals are bright in colour and gently float to the floor when thrown, giving your photographer plenty of time to capture your perfect confetti moment. It also represents a strong bond of love too. It's claimed colour variation of Larkspur has a different meaning too, including:

  • Pink meaning fickleness;
  • White conveying a happy nature, joyful and happy-go-lucky
  • Purple representing a first love or having a sweet disposition

19/07/2016  |  Disney inspired confetti

Disney inspired weddings are a big trend at the moment. Couples are choosing their favourite films or characters to theme their wedding around. So for today’s blog we have picked our favourite Disney films and chosen confetti mixes taking inspiration from the colours and characters in the films.

Icy white and pale blue, the perfect mix for a Cinderella themed wedding is Icing Sugar and Duck Egg. The contrast in petal sizes will really make the blue stand out on your wedding photos.

Wizard of Oz

Ruby red slippers have inspired this mix. With a combination of Lady in Red, Icing Sugar and Blue Bird, this vibrant mix is perfect for a Wizard of Oz theme. Why not add some Honey’b petals too to add some yellow to the mix.

Beauty and the Beast

A timeless classic romantic love story; Belle’s golden dress is the ideal colour to choose for a Beauty and the Beast inspired wedding. Add a hint of blue and ivory to complete the look using Honey’b, Icing Sugar and Blue Bird petals.

Alice in Wonderland

Who doesn’t love teatime! Inspired by the teatime scene in Alice in Wonderland, we have chosen a delicate pink, ivory and green mix to compliment this theme. Using Blush and Bramble, this mix will look fantastic scattered on tables for some reception décor as well as your throwing confetti.

The Little Mermaid

Ariel’s vibrant red hair and the blue ocean just has to be the colour combination for a The Little Mermaid theme. Using Frosted Blue and Clementine, this mix is sure to create a wonderful colour splash!

Snow White

Snow White’s iconic red lips is the perfect colour inspiration for a Snow White wedding. We have chosen our Romeo and Juliet mix. You could also add some hints of blue and yellow for an extra touch to your confetti.

One of the newest and most popular Disney films in recent years, we just had to choose a mix with blues and pink. This is a combination of Blue Bird, Frosted Blue and Cerise.

The Lion King

The Lion King is all about orange, so instead of choosing a few colours, the perfect confetti for a The Lion King themed wedding would be Ginger Snap. These delicate calendula petals will float gently to the ground when thrown and create a colourful impact on your confetti photos. Scatter some on crisp white tablecloths too for some added detailing.

Pocahontas loves nature and being free. Combining her flowing black hair and her love for the wild, a mix of Tuxedo and Envy would suit a Pocahontas theme perfectly. Add some other natural elements such as log slices as table centrepieces with a scattering of confetti for a natural, forest feel to your reception.

Sleeping Beauty

Pretty in pink – inspired by her pretty pink dress and long blonde hair, the perfect mix for a Sleeping Beauty wedding is our Pink Lemonade. Its subtle pastel colours will look beautiful as it is showered on you by your guests.

If you’re having a Disney themed wedding, think about the colours of the main characters and the film to create your own unique confetti mix.

28/06/2016  |  A Rose by any other name

'A rose by any other name would smell as sweet' Shakespeare was onto something! We just love roses, and it's not just us, roses have been a firm favourite dating back to ancient civilisations including the Greeks, Romans and even Persians. Roses symbolise love, passion and purity. They've been grown for their gorgeous colours and beautiful aromas for thousands of years!

Even through literature, poetry, art or film, roses have always offered a powerful message, like the world renowned Scottish Poet Robert Burns expressing his love in the poem 'A Red, Red Rose' or the significance of red rose petals in the film American Beauty. June's birth flower is the rose and with so many different meanings for each colour we've explained just some of them below:

Red Roses: Love and Romance

A red rose is the ultimate expression of love, desire and romance. This fragrant flower can be used to convey admiration and devotion, the perfect symbolic flower for your valentine or your partner on your wedding day. Our red rose petals which are called Lady in Red are the ideal choice. Why not scatter Lady in Red petals along your wedding aisle to signify your love?

The darkness of the rose petal can also offer symbolic meaning, with darker shades of roses like our Damson Wine symbolise an unconscious love, whilst rose buds offer meaning of youthful love and beauty.

Pink Roses: Love, Gratitude, Appreciation

Pink roses on the other hand can carry many different meanings like the connotations of grace and elegance. Light pink roses like Promise or Flamingo Pink convey ideas of admiration, gentleness and innocence. These would be ideal for flower girls to scatter at a wedding.

Deeper pink roses like Cerise often symbolise a sense of gratitude and appreciation. Why not scatter a path of Cerise petals from the foot of the stairs to your bedroom on your anniversary to tell your partner you appreciate them?

White or Cream Roses: Purity, Innocence, Sympathy, Spirituality

White is internationally recognised as being associated with the purity of the wedding dress on the big day, and early traditions used the white rose as a symbol of true love. The white or cream rose is traditionally seen as the wedding flower. Buttermik petals are ideal for mixing with delphinium and wildflowers to create a gorgeous natural petal confetti combination full of symbolic meaning and elegance. This beautiful colour represents unity and virtue.

Yellow Roses: Friendship, Joy

Yellow is such a happy and enjoyable colour and it's association with yellow roses is just the same. Yellow rose petals like Golden Slumber express exuberance, joy and warmth. Why not add a splash of colour to a summer party by adding a table scattering of Golden Slumber petals?

Orange: Desire, Enthusiasm and Passion

Orange rose petals like our freeze dried Clementine bridges the gap between red and yellow, and symbolises the expression of intense desire, pride and passion. This energetic colour also brings meaning to a brightly shining relationship.

Lavender Roses: Enchantment, Royalty, Love at First Sight

Purple has traditionally been associated with the monarchy, Aubergine rose petals offer a splendid display of enchantment and indulgence. On the other hand the lighter lilac tone rose petals like Parma Violet suggest a more immediate meaning of love at first sight.

With so many beautiful meanings we encourage you to express yourself with colour for every occasion. Enjoy and relish the meanings of each rose petal.

Love as Always SP xx

24/06/2016  |  National Kissing Day

Today is National Kissing Day! This fun expression has so many descriptions including smooching, pecking, snogging or even playing tonsil-tennis! It's estimated 90% of the world's population kiss as a sign of affection and love, but why do we kiss?

The earliest recorded evidence of kissing is over 3,500 years ago from Hindu Vedic Sanskrit texts where kissing was described as inhaling each other's soul. On a lighter note researchers have found that kissing releases lots of feel-good chemicals in our bodies and helps to reduce stress and increase bonding with our partner. If that's not enough of a reason to kiss as often as possible, we don't know what is!

21/06/2016  |  Summer Solstice inspired confetti

Yesterday (June 20th) marked 2016’s Summer Solstice – the official start to summer. The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year and many gather to watch the sun rise at ancient sites such as Stonehenge. Typically, summer solstice celebrations are filled with colour and flowers, so on today’s blog we are sharing our favourite colourful Summer Solstice inspired confetti mixes - perfect for a summer wedding.

A rainbow of colour

We love this mix as featured on the Bespoke Bride blog a while ago. Full of colour and texture, this is perfect for weddings with a colourful theme. This pretty mix is made up from Sunshine Kisses, Candy Floss and Frosted Blue with Flamingo Pink, Delilah, Wisteria, Golden Slumber, Duck Egg and Buttermilk larger petals added in.

Yellow Sun

As the Summer Solstice is all about the sun, we just had to share this elegant yellow mix. Made up from Icing Sugar delphinium petals and Golden Slumber rose petals, this mix looks fabulous when teamed with our yellow confetti cones.

Summer Sky

When we think of the summer sky, we think of a beautiful blue with a touch of white cloud. This mix is our popular Summer Sky, which is made up of Icing Sugar and Frosted Blue. This would be perfect for your ‘something blue’. If you want to add a touch of colour, add some Duck Egg blue hydrangea petals or go even bolder and add some Clementine rose petals to represent the sunshine.

Pink hues

Many of the flowers seen at Summer Solstice celebrations are pink as pink is a great colour for summer. We love an all pink mix; this stunning combination is made up of Candy Floss delphiniums and our Flamingo Pink rose petals. The pink tones work really well together, especially when placed in our pink confetti cones and our Shropshire Box.

The Summer Solstice sunrise is the marking of the beginning of the first day of summer. As it goes from dark to light, we have included hints of dark, sunshine and green grass in this mix. Made up from our Chocolate Sunrise confetti mix and Envy hydrangea petals, this is the perfect mix for a natural summer themed wedding.

Whatever your wedding theme, head to our pick and mix tool to create your unique confetti mix. Choose from a variety of colours and different petals and have fun creating the mix for your wow factor confetti moment!

14/06/2016  |  British Flowers Week

Afternoon folks and Happy British Flower Week to you all!

Here at Shropshire Petals we grow all of our delphinium & wildflowers right here on our Shropshire farm.  This includes delphiniums, calendula, cornflowers, sunflowers and of course lots of different trials as we are always experimenting with new flowers to add to our collection.  A diversified business, we grow our flowers for natural petal confetti.  All of the flowers that we grow are handpicked and dried to produce biodegradable wedding confetti, a super eco-friendly and oh so pretty alternative to paper confetti.

From the fields in bloom...

To the lightest, fluffiest natural petal confetti...

There are many ways to a girls heart but for us here at Shropshire Petals it's a bunch of flowers of course! Also a good cup of English tea and some cake definitely ticks the right boxes.  So when it comes to harvest and our annual photo shoot we like to combine the two.  Here's the Shropshire Petals team having a British tea party in our British flower field...

What's a party without confetti...

There are many ways to showcase our British flower confetti, here is just a selection of our current favourites:

Our wheat may be a grain rather than a flower but it's still all grown here on our Shropshire farm and it's a big firm favourite for rustic bouquets so deserves a big mention in British Flowers Week.

From our Shropshire Fields we would love to say a big Happy British Flowers Week to all of our wonderful customers. So come on everyone let's support our British growers and stockists and encourage everyone to buy British!

Love as always, SP x x

10/06/2016  |  Happy Birthday to Queen Elizabeth

This weekend Queen Elizabeth will be celebrating her 90thBirthday and from the entire Shropshire Petals bunch we'd like to wish our Liz a happy birthday! To celebrate, our very own Rosemary Bubb has put together a beautiful window display at the nearby Sherifhales church to commemorate Her majesty's birthday. Inspired by The Queen's racing colours, Rosemary used our Shropshire Petals natural flower petals to create a charming display.

The Queen's racing silks have been in the royal family since the late 19th century when the Queen's great-grandfather, King Edward VII, introduced them. The silks are worn by The Queen's jockeys when riding Her Majesty's horses.

The jacket has a purple body with scarlet sleeves and gold braiding, whilst the black velvet cap has a gold fringe. Rosemary used Midnight Blue for the jacket body, Lady in Red for the red sleeves and Honey'B for all the golden highlights, plus a scattering of Midnight Blue and Icing Sugar in the background.

It's not the first time SP have rejoiced in honour of The Queen, back in 2012 during the Jubilee Shropshire Petals were were personally at hand with plenty of throwing confetti to celebrate the occasion. As part of the Jubilee local school children were asked to take part in the parade which ended in front of The Queen, with everyone throwing confetti to mark the momentous occasion. Here's a snap taken on the day.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

6/06/2016  |  Summer confetti to add colour to your special day

Summer has now officially started and the wedding season has begun. No matter what the weather on your wedding day, you can still add a touch of sunshine romance to your wedding day with colourful confetti from Shropshire Petals.

Shropshire Petals are on hand with their top confetti colour recommendations for your summer wedding:

Bright and beautiful

If you are looking for a colour pop on your confetti photographs, a bright orange mix is perfect. The Orange Blossom mix is a combination of orange marigold petals and ivory delphinium petals.

Perfect pastel

For a light colourful confetti mix, choosing a variety of pastel colours mixed together is perfect for summer. The popular Summer Nights natural petal confetti is a delicate mix of light blue, pale pink and ivory delphinium petals.

Something blue

As the saying goes, 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue', this confetti mix is perfect for your something blue, and is even named Something Blue. With hints of cream and blue this natural petal confetti mix is great for matching to your wedding colours, or even contrasting against them.

A taste of honeymoon

Inspired by the sea in a far away destination, the Coral Reef confetti mix is already proving to be a popular summer favourite. Coral Reef is a stunning mixture of delicate pale pink and ivory delphinium petals with a bold splash of orange rose petals - colours you will expect to see on the coral reef!

If you are looking for even more of a colour splash, pick and mix your own confetti using our online pick and mix selector. We love to create new mixes and enjoy seeing what combinations our happy couples invent too. To make this confetti mix below, we chose Raspberry Fool and Midnight Blue delphinium petals and mixed these with Ginger Snap and Honey B calendula petals to create a rainbow of confetti! Click here to view this complete confetti mix.

Choosing confetti

Picking the colour of your confetti is fun and exciting; just remember to make sure you choose the right confetti to get the wow factor confetti moment you're looking for. We recommend smaller petals such as delphiniums and wildflowers as these are lighter, which create a gentle flutter as they fall upon you after you have said your I do's. To add some extra colour and texture, you can select some larger petals to mix in with the smaller ones. Click here to create your own confetti mix

3/06/2016  |  Confetti Mix of the Month for June

June is all about sunshine, the summer and lazy days with friends. That's why this month we've created a beautiful pastel confetti mix with pinches of pink, grey and lilac. We think this natural petal confetti is perfect for vintage style weddings with the summery feel.

Our June confetti Mix of the Month is 100% natural, biodegradable and gorgeous for throwing over the newly married couple as a symbol of love, prosperity and fertility.

This charming mix is a combination of delphinium and wildflower petals Icing Sugar, Candy Floss and Lady Grey, plus the larger petals are hydrangeas called Wisteria. You can select this confetti mix for your wedding with lots of different packaging options to present for your guests on the big day - click here.

We love this confetti mix with our lilac, pink, white or grey confetti cones, or possibly our Silver pails or even our Hessian Canvas Bag that includes 5 litre of confetti - that's enough for around 50 handfuls! Alternatively if you're planning to create your homemade confetti cones our Confetti Box would be perfect with this mix!

Here at Shropshire Petals we love seeing what interesting combinations of petals and colours our brides create for their wedding day. If you'd like to create your own unique petal confetti mix, visit our Pick and Mix selector - just click here.

24/05/2016  |  Perfect signs for your wedding

So you're planning your wedding, you've spent hours in your pj's scrolling through ideas on Pinterest but you're still not sure how to ask your wedding guests to take a handful of natural petal confetti?

Shropshire Petals can help you with that, we've just released two new adorable blackboard signs that are perfect for displaying your wedding messages to your wedding party.

Why have a chalkboard sign?

By adding a little message for your guests you can kindly ask them to do something (handy if you can't speak to all your guests all at once), or use your signs to ramp up the fun factor on the day.

What can I write on my chalkboard signs?

We've thought of a few messages you can write to your wedding guests on your confetti signs:

  • We're getting married!
  • Take a cone
  • Let's celebrate
  • To the happy couple!
  • Throw me
  • When the happy couple pass by, throw me up high
  • Why not have your wedding date? 11.09.16
  • Or even your initials, A&J

The possibilities are endless, just use your imagination.

Where to use your chalkboard signs?

We love the idea of pitching a Chalkboard Sign in your confetti basket to let your guests know they can take a handful, or in your confetti cones asking them to take a cone. Alternatively you could use your Chalkboard Sign as decoration on your wedding tables, why not write the table number or name and place in a glass vase or amongst your flower decorations.

As our Chalkboard Easels are free-standing they can stand anywhere. You could place a Chalkboard Easel next to your Shropshire Box asking everyone to throw when you pass, or maybe place a Chalkboard Easel next to your delicious wedding cake, letting everyone know what flavour each tier is.

What are the benefits to using a chalkboard sign?

Chalkboard signs are incredibly popular right now on the wedding scene. What's even better, if you change your mind about what you've written, simply rub out the chalk and start again! It's perfect for any wedding as a gorgeous added detail.

We'd love to see how you use your Chalkboard Signs or Easels so make sure to share them on our Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or even Pinterest channels.

20/05/2016  |  Free printable abstract confetti cones

A few weeks ago, the very beautiful Bespoke Bride blog created a blog post about DIY abstract confetti cones. They designed a free printable confetti cone for readers to download and use as an alternative to bought confetti cones.

We loved this piece that much; we just had to share it on our blog.

These abstract confetti cones are super easy to make:

1. Download the free printable here

2. Print as many as you require for confetti cones

3. Roll each page into a cone and glue in place

4. Done!  If you want to add a little metallic tip just like Bespoke Bride did, all you need is some spray paint and kitchen roll:

  • Wrap kitchen roll around the top of the cone to create a straight line
  • Spray the ends
  • Leave to dry and there you have your abstract confetti cones

Confetti_cone_free_printable_pink_abstract_download_natural_confetti_petals_shropshire_petals_colourful_wedding_inspiration_12 Confetti_cone_free_printable_pink_abstract_download_natural_confetti_petals_shropshire_petals_colourful_wedding_inspiration_13

Now all you need to do is to decide which confetti mix you’re going to fill your cones with. Bespoke Bride used a combination of Sunshine Kisses, Candy Floss and Frosted Blue. They then threw in some mixed larger petals, which included Flamingo Pink, Delilah, Wisteria, Golden Slumber, Duck Egg and Buttermilk.

Head to the pick and mix tool to create your own unique confetti mix.

Don’t forget, you can purchase our pre-made cones online now. We have also just introduced selling cones on their own too.

Earlier in the year, we also collaborated with Bespoke Bride on a guide to finding the perfect confetti colour palette – head to their blog to read all about it.

17/05/2016  |  10 confetti mixes for your summer wedding

Summer is almost here and this is the biggest season for weddings. Summer weddings are perfect for adding vibrant, colourful details, especially when it comes to the confetti! Today's blog is all about summer confetti as we share our top 10 summer confetti mixes that will look amazing on your wedding photos.

1. A touch of the sun

Our Coral Reef confetti mix is the perfect blend of soft pastel pink and ivory with a bold splash of bright orange. The larger Clementine petals in this mix stand out beautifully on photos, giving them a lovely texture as well as colour.

2. Something blue

Confetti is great to use as your something blue as blue is perfect for adding other colours to. Why not add your main wedding theme colours to our blue bird cornflower petals for a truly unique confetti mix. We love this mix of Frosted Blue, Blue Bird and Cerise.

3. Subtle nudes

If you want a more subtle confetti mix, but still want it to be bright on your photos, pastel pinks work wonderfully. This mix of Pink Lemonade and Promise look stunning in grey confetti cones.

4. Elegantly bright

No matter what your wedding theme colours are, you don't have to match your confetti. Contrasting your confetti to your theme will make it stand out more. For an elegant touch of bright, our Sunshine Kisses confetti mix is perfect for any wedding.

5. Pink is beautiful

Pink is a great colour for summer as it comes in a variety of different shades. This mix of pink and ivory confetti looks beautiful as it delicately floats down over a newly married couple. This mix is made up of Icing Sugar, Raspberry Fool, Candy Floss and our new Flamingo Pink rose petals.

6. Cheerful yellow

Yellow is of course a lovely bright colour which reminds us all of summer. However, if it is sunny on your wedding day, using yellow alone may not stand out as well as you would like on your photos. Mix yellow with a bright darker colour to make it really stand out. We love this mix of Raspberry Fool, Honey'B and Golden Slumber in yellow cones.

7. Vintage pastels

Vintage themes aren't usually associated with bright summery colours. Our Vintage Daydream is a mix of bright pastel blue, pink and ivory, which will look fantastic on summery confetti photos as it is subtle, yet bright enough to make a great impact.

8. Rainbow brights

We love a pick and mix of confetti that uses a wide variety of colours. Many couples stick to their wedding theme or favourite colours, but this mix of Icing Sugar, Candy Floss, Amethyst, Flamingo Pink, Buttermilk, Promise, Duck Egg, Delilah, Wisteria and Honey'B just shows how pretty a range of lots of colours can be.

(Credit: Bespoke Bride)

9. Bold and beautiful

Darker colours mixed with yellow will add a touch of sunshine to your confetti photos. This mix of dark purple and pink with bright yellow will give your confetti photos a bold colour splash.

10. May Mix of the Month

Our May Mix of the Month is a pretty mix of pink and blue. Adding larger petals such as Duck Egg hydrangeas is a great way of adding some additional summer colour. The May Mix of the Month is made up of Candy Floss, Frosted Blue and Duck Egg.

Head to the Pick and Mix tool to create your own summer confetti mix. We'd love to see what you create, so why not post a picture on Facebook.

13/05/2016  |  Emerald and Lily of the Valley Wedding Ideas

Emerald green themed wedding theme

May's birthstone is the beautiful and bold Emerald gemstone. Emerald themed weddings are growing in popularity, and it's easy to see why. Emeralds convey several complex symbolisms including peace, balance and growth. The Egyptian Queen Cleopatra draped herself in them as they were thought to offer eternal life.

Emerald_Wedding_ideas (source: Pinterest)

May's flower of the month wedding ideas

Lily of the Valley is the flower of the month of May, this beautiful white flower grows in Europe and would be a lovely addition to your wedding. Did you know Lily of the Valley was used in Kate Middleton's wedding bouquet? Aside from being used for royal weddings, this charming flower symbolises purity, sweetness and humility.

(source: Pinterest)

We love the idea of combining May's birthstone and flower of the month for a stunning wedding theme. Both the greens and white work well together to bring a little nature for your big day.

What better way to bring these two colours together than with natural petal confetti? We love the biodegradable confetti mix Enchanted Woods for this gorgeous combination!

10/05/2016  |  How to use lavender on your big day

Did you know that lavender represents beauty and femininity? It is considered to be the ‘grown-up’ pink! So what isn’t to love – with its pretty purple shades, using it to add some colour and detail to your big day is simple!

To show you just how a little bit of lavender can create spectacular details for your wedding, here are our favourite ways to use it:

The bouquet

Lavender is a very versatile crop, and using it in or for your bouquet will add texture and a delicate scent as you walk down the aisle. Using lavender on its own for a small posy style bouquet will look chic and rustic. You can also add it to a selection of fresh wild flowers for a country-style look. Our favourite, of course, is adding it to wheat to make pretty wheat and lavender bouquets. Add a few dried or fresh flower heads to compliment your wedding theme.

Venue Decoration

Lavender is perfect for using as additional venue décor. Whatever your theme or style, placing bunches in vases, pots, jars or even old wooden boxes can really add a special touch to your venue decoration. Be creative, place lavender filled containers up stairways to lead to your reception room, down the aisle to make a lovely aisle lining, in windows to continue your wedding theme throughout your venue and why not place large bunches into tall containers outside the entrance to a marquee to glam it up.

Lavender_and_wheat_in_cart Lavender_decoration

Table Settings

Deciding on what to do with your tables can be difficult. You might have a fantastic centrepiece, but why not use lavender to add those extra little touches to your tables. Place a sprig or two on your guests’ plate or attach to napkins with a nametag for a rustic place setting. You could even scatter some loose lavender grain on crisp white tablecloths for some added texture and scent.

Sprigs_of_lavender_as_table_decor Lavender_name_tag

DIY table décor

Are you adding some DIY touches to your wedding? Use lavender to make some simple additions to your table décor. Tie small sprigs around glass jars with some string, raffia or ribbon and place a candle inside the jar for an elegant table decoration that will add some romance when the candle is lit. Compliment these with some larger candles (not to be lit) with some larger sprigs of lavender tied around the middle. Don’t forget that adding a sprinkle of confetti to your tables is another great way of adding some additional simple décor.

Screen Shot 2016-05-05 at 19.51.13_1

Chair decorations

Lavender bunched together gives off a vibrant colour splash and scent. If you want to add a touch of natural charm to your reception, tie lavender bunches to chair backs. They also look wonderful teamed with wheat to break up the colour.

Lavender grain is perfect to use as alternative to confetti. You can also add lavender grain to your favourite natural petal confetti mix, which will not only look great on your photos, it will also smell amazing too!

Special offer

Get 25 mini lavender bundles for just £50! This fantastic package consists of 25 country chic lavender bundles tied with a bit of raffia for an additional touch of the country. Click here to take advantage of this wonderful special offer.

There are so many pretty natural, eco-friendly details in which you can include into your special day, so where do you start? Today’s blog is all about a versatile natural crop that can be used in a variety of aspects of your wedding day...wheat!

To inspire your natural wedding, here are 5 ways to incorporate wheat into your wedding:

1. The bouquet

Traditionally, the bouquet is made up of fresh flowers and green foliage, yet recent years have seen the introduction of alternative bouquets such as buttons, brooches, fruits, shells and even pine cones to name but a few. A fantastic way of including wheat into your wedding is to use it as your bouquet. Wheat Sheaves are perfect and you can either choose them with dried flowers already included or plain to add your own personal touch by adding fresh flowers, ribbons or anything you like to make suit your style.

2. Buttonholes

Wheat is great for making buttonholes. Its neutral colour really stands out against the groom and groomsmen’s suits. Make your own by taking a few stems of wheat; add a dried or fresh flower and tie together with some raffia or coloured ribbon to match your wedding theme.

3. Table centrepiece

Choosing your table centrepieces can be difficult and expensive. Wheat Sheaves make simple, elegant and inexpensive centrepieces. Place them in the centre of your table on crisp, white tablecloths and add your own personal touches by sprinkling some confetti around the base, adding fresh flowers or lavender between the stems.

4. Place settings

Carry on the wheat theme by making your own place settings. Take a stem or two of wheat and add a stem of lavender or a single flower, tie these to your napkins and add a tag with your guests’ name for a simple, yet distinctive place setting decoration.

5. Venue décor

Wheat sheaves come in all different sizes, this makes them the ideal venue decoration. Place different sized wheat sheaves around your venue to give a sense of texture and height. They look great as the outline of an aisle path or leading the way up stairs inside your venue. For a more rustic look, place some wheat and lavender bunches in rustic containers for some added natural charm.

Wheat is so versatile, allowing you to really put your own creative stamp on your big day. If you’re not creative, there is a wonderful selection of wheat sheaves in our shop.

19/04/2016  |  Happy Earth Day

On the 22nd April Earth Day is celebrated across the world. What is Earth day I hear you ask? It's a movement started in California during the 1970's designed to question what we can do to protect our environment.

What is Earth Day all about?

Earth Day stands for challenging new ideas, igniting passion and motivating people to be conscious about how they affect the world in which we all live. It looks at big issues like climate change and deforestation, it also concentrates on closer to home issues like green urban spaces and local wildlife.

Shropshire Petals is eco-conscious

Here at Shropshire Petals the environment is an important issue for us, all the petals we grow on our farm that go on to create our beautiful confetti are natural and biodegradable. They are all completely natural in colour, no dyes are ever added and they're personally handpicked and packed for your 'confetti moment!' What's more our flower fields are also a fantastic space for wildlife like bees, butterflies and other insects.

Solar energy at SP

The Shropshire Petals farm is also powered by solar panels. Solar energy is clean and environmentally friendly, plus because our solar panels are on top of our barns they don't leave a footprint on the land too. That means we've got more space for planting beautiful flowers for our brides!

All our Shropshire Petals packaging is also carbon neutral which makes sure any impact made on the environment is offset. We pledge to continue and improve our eco-friendly approach and do everything we can to take care of our planet.

What can you do?

If you're wondering what you can do to help? Here's three things you can easily do at home:

  1. Plant wildflowers in your garden to encourage pollinating insects - Click here for tips from the RHS

  2. Turn off unused lights and unplug any mobile phone chargers that aren't being used. You'd be amazed how much energy you could save just doing these simple things.

  3. Remember to take your own reusable carrier bag with you to the shops and don't use plastic carrier bags. We've just released our Hessian Canvas Bag which would be perfect as a environmentally friendly reusable carrier bag, or even a lunch bag.

Whatever you choose to do on Earth Day, just make sure you continue it for the other 364 days of the year too. Happy Earth Day!

Love as always SP xx

19/04/2016  |  The Flower of April: The Daisy

April is now in full swing and as the April baby in the SP office (Hi, it's Emma!) I’m taking over today’s blog to talk about how much I love the cheerful colours of the birth flower of April; the daisy!

Here at Shropshire Petals we are big fans of daisies, did you know it was Daisy Bubb who started the dried flower business way back in 1985 selling dried flowers at the WI markets? That’s why our SP logo embraces the delightful Daisy.

To me, daisies are a wonderful representation of childhood memories making daisy chains in the sunshine with my sisters and friends; a memory definitely worth recreating with your bridal party during your confetti moment!  And as you can see below, although we don’t grow them for confetti, there are plenty of them in beautiful full bloom here on the farm.

Daisies are the perfect addition to any wedding; making beautiful corsages or additions to flower arrangements. As the daisy family is said to make up 10% of all flowering plants on the entire planet, they’re certainly not in short supply! There’s plenty of ways of incorporating a daisy theme into your wedding, here's our Yellow and White Daisy themed confetti ideas.

Daisy Colour...

Sunshine Kisses is the Shropshire Petals confetti mix perfect for showcasing the simplicity and joy of the daisy; a subtle spring mix of white with the splash of yellow vibrancy! Perfect for injecting some sunshine into any confetti shot, even when the British weather may let you down! Our sunshine kisses is made up of our honey’b yellow calendula petals and icing sugar white delphiniums.

Daisy Flowers...

Did you know our Country Garden Wheat Sheaf contains daisies? Amongst other cottage garden flowers it makes a stunning bouquet or a fabulous table center piece.   We also stock a Country Garden wheat wreath that's perfect for the door of a country home.

Daisy name...

And for those wishing to literally go the whole hog, showcase the daisy theme in your wedding with our beautiful Daisy Daisy!

Love Emma @ SP x x

It's actually Emma's birthday today so Happy Birthday Emma, love the SP team x x

14/04/2016  |  Top 9 confetti cones and their wedding petals

Ever wondered which colour wedding cones would match your natural petal confetti? Look no further, we're here to help. Here are our top 9 colour combinations for the perfect wedding confetti!

We think these blue cones are just delightful and this Summer Nights mix of natural petal confetti works well with it. This combination oozes delicate pastel colours, a huge trend this year!

Our kraft wedding cones match almost any confetti mix, but we especially love their earthy natural appeal, so we love to put them alongside this Enchanted Woods confetti mix. It's a wonderful blend of greens, ivory and a touch of rustic charm.

We just love this delphinium and wildflower mix Tuxedo. It's classy, sophisticated and the mixture of black and ivory really stands out against the bride's dress, making that all important confetti photo look stunning! Tuxedo looks fab with our grey wedding confetti cones.

These navy wedding confetti cones look stunning with a flash of bold colour, like our golden yellow confetti mix Sunshine Kisses. These powerful colours really make an impressive impact that your guests will love!

If you've got a delicate pink themed wedding, a perfect combination could be these beautiful pink wedding cones with this natural petal confetti mix Blush.

We adore these gorgeous lilac cones with our Highland Fling confetti mix. This mix covers a spectrum of purples and violets, it's made of Icing Sugar, Lady Grey, Amethyst and Midnight Blue which are all natural biodegradable petals grown on the Shropshire Petals farm. This winning combination is perfect for cadbury purple weddings.

With yellow confetti cones we highly recommend our silver grey natural delphinium petal confetti mix Winter's Morn. This gorgeous yellow and grey combination is becoming very popular and we can see why.

For a truly natural yet delicate colour combination we like to match these green confetti cones with our mix and match selection of Icing Sugar, Candy Floss, Raspberry Fool and brand new beautiful larger petal Bramble. Not only does this match in heaven suit pink themed weddings but also green themed weddings with a hint of ivory too. You can select this confetti mix here.

Last but not least, our most popular confetti cone colour is iconic wedding white, this beautiful snow white cone matches most confetti mixes, but if there's one we really love it's Romeo & Juliet. This red and white confetti mix is made of classic red rose petals and cream natural petal confetti.

With so many colour combinations available to choose from you can create your own perfect confetti mix and match it to any confetti cone colour. Make your confetti moment as unique as you are. If you are unsure of how much confetti you might need for your wedding day, use our confetti calculator.

Love as always, SP xx

12/04/2016  |  A Mid-Summer Nights Dream

Here in the petal shed, we are often asked by photographers, bloggers and stylists for confetti to be sent to use in inspirational photo shoots. We love sending our petals off and seeing what wonderful things can be done with them.

We recently sent some to Ela at Bo-Chic Weddings and Events who wanted them for a Mid-Summer Nights Dream wedding inspired shoot. Ela kindly sent over the images from the shoot and they are truly stunning, perfect for some inspiration if you’re planning a woodland/natural themed wedding.

The brief

We were asked for a mixture of petals to fit a Magical Shakespearian vibe meets enchanted woodland with wild detailing. The colour palette was berry, fuchsia and mossy green with hints of blush and gold.

We sent our Candy Floss delphinium petals and our Damson Wine rose petals to match the brief, which in their words “worked wonders in the photos”.

Having fun with confetti

The photographer, Matthew Bishop, captured the confetti perfectly. They had lots of fun attempting to time the throwing of confetti (something we have still yet to master when we do our own photo shoots). Ela said “the confetti got everyone laughing and created some truly magical moments.”

They had fun throwing confetti in creative ways; we love the photos of Faye (owner of Woodland Weddings Ltd where the shoot was done) and her little girl Lila.

Here is selection of some of our favourite images from the shoot:

8/04/2016  |  How to Put Together your Shropshire Box

The Shropshire Box is one of our most popular ways of displaying your confetti, a complete package which includes 25 cones and all your confetti to fill, together with a dispensing tray that can be used after your wedding as a keepsake box, tied together with a pretty satin ribbon. They look beautiful, guests love that they have their own cone full of gorgeous natural petal confetti, what's even better is it makes it easy to transport your confetti!  We often get asked, how do you put together a Shropshire Box?

Here's how:

Step 1 - 4

  • Start off by getting your Shropshire Box, confetti cones and confetti together.
  • Unwrap your Shropshire Box.
  • Open your Shropshire Box.
  • Take out the two trays in the bottom of your Shropshire Box and turn them upside down.

Step 5 - 8

  • Place the two trays back inside the Shropshire Box, these will hold your cones!
  • Place your cones in the holes of the two trays.
  • Fill the Shropshire Box with all your cones, you will have 25 cones in total.
  • Either face your cones towards each other, or face them all the same way. We've faced them in on each other to look like a rose.

Step 9 - 12

  • Start putting your natural petal confetti into the cones.
  • Stand back and admire your beautiful Shropshire Box.

From start to finish putting your Shropshire Box together takes around 3 minutes, and as you can see it's super easy! Ushers are brilliant for encouraging guests to take a cone, so have fun and enjoy your confetti moment!

5/04/2016  |  Follow the bride - The Big Day

5th December 2015 saw Katie and Graham get married, here's Katie with lots of photos from the big day and of course some confetti shots…

Brew me up a cup for a winter's night
When the wind howls loud in the cold moonlight
Spice it with love and stir it with care
And I'll toast your bright eyes, my sweetheart fair

There's nothing better for Graham and I on a cold winter's day than a good walk with our dog Bramble, then coming home to a mulled cider with a warm blanket in front of the fire… except maybe a Wedding! Well the wind certainly did howl loud on the 5th December when storm Desmond decided to make an appearance, but a blustery day saw fun and laughter had by all and an amazing confetti shot!

Working for Shropshire Petals I've obviously seen a lot of confetti go out the door and I've been to a lot of weddings and thrown a lot of confetti. With the wind blowing a gale, even I had my doubts on the confetti shot, but with confetti in hand and an awesome photographer -Lois Rowlands - everyone was ready to go and I know I'm biased but what a confetti shot!

The confetti shot is such a surreal, once in a lifetime moment, everyone is standing waiting, confetti cone in hand and ready to throw, there's a moment of calm then all of a sudden confetti is in an absolute whirlwind and everyone loves it! I think with the wind all of our guests got their own confetti moments too, it really was like a confetti blizzard, Graham and I loved it!

Making mine and the bridesmaid's dresses and most of the wedding details meant we didn't use a great deal of suppliers, so a big mention must go out to those who we did use; Appleberry Press, The Wedding Tree, Silverline Cars, Yarwood-White, Irregular Choice, Jasmine's Floral Fancies and Hill Valley Golf and Country Club, oh and Shropshire Petals of course! Lois has just featured our wedding on her blog if anyone would like a look at all the details of the day.

All the details came together and I even had pockets in my dress! I also had gloves and a cardigan and all the girls had cosy shawls. The mini Christmas trees in the church added a festive feel and arriving at the venue to mulled cider, good food and a fabulous cake added lots of rich flavours, the fun was topped off with our amazing 'over the moon' photo booth which Graham's brother made for us.

Two people I would obviously like to add a big mention to are; Mum who helped and guided with the seemingly endless amount of sewing and of course, my Husband, ah that word never gets old!

This mix biodegradable natural petal confetti is a stunning blend of pink, green and ivory. 18/03/2016  |  The Spring Equinox

The Spring Equinox is almost upon us, this means the days and nights are virtually equal, the perfect time to celebrate a balanced partnership of two equals, in other words a good old wedding! It's also a time to celebrate new growth, hope for the future and colour. There is so much colour associated with Spring. Around the Shropshire Petals Shed we've got yellow daffodills leaping out at you and fresh lime greens showing new growth.

In Japan the nation begins turning a shade of pink around this time of year with the arrival of cherry blossom. What a beautiful sight to see!

In South Asia Spring is celebrated with the festival of colour called Holi. People cover their loved ones with vivid colour to mark the end of the gloomy winter, and welcome the Spring.

Wishing you a very happy Spring equinox where ever you may be, why not celebrate it with colour?

3/03/2016  |  6 top tips on getting the perfect confetti shot

Getting married is one of the most exciting days of your life. Whether you're planning a big venue wedding or a small intimate affair, you will want a perfect confetti photo to remember your day by!

(credit: David Golding Photography)

The confetti photo, simple, guests just throw confetti over the newly married couple? The confetti shot is one of the most requested by wedding photographers and capturing that moment isn't as easy as you may think, but to get a great confetti shot, follow our 6 top tips:

1. Choose the right confetti

There are different colours and sizes of natural petal confetti. The best petals for throwing are small petals such as delphiniums or wild flowers as they are light and fall delicately to the ground. Smaller petals will ensure your photographer has plenty of time to capture the magical moment. Don't worry; if you are set on a colour only available in larger petals, you can add some of these to smaller ones, which will also give a lovely textured effect to your photos.

2. Choose the right colour mix

You might want to choose colours to match or contrast your wedding theme, but make sure you also consider where your photographs are being taken - is the background light or dark? Choose colours that will stand out, for example, if you are using church walls as a background, pale colours will be enhanced on a photograph and use darker colours like Cadbury purple or cerise pink on a light background or open spaces for a bold colour splash.

3. Work out how much you will need

Depending on the type of shot you want - a confetti shot full of petals or a delicate confetti shot - you will need to know how much confetti you will need. For a full shot, make sure you have plenty for your guests to throw; one or two large handfuls per guest will be perfect. For a more delicate shot, one handful per couple will work wonderfully. Usually only half of your guests will throw confetti (this tends to be just the ladies), so make sure you have enough depending on the number of guests you are having. You can use the Shropshire Petals confetti calculator to help and you can always order extra in case you need to do a second take!

4. Discuss your confetti shot with your photographer

Ask your photographer to show you some photos they have taken previously to give you an idea of their style. Discuss what you want from your confetti photo and as they will probably know the wedding location, ask them where they think is the best spot to have your confetti moment. They will be able to discuss options with you according to the time of day, light and surroundings.

5. Make sure your guests know how to throw!

This might sound simple, but you only get one chance to capture the perfect confetti moment and the key is in the throwing. Delegate a bridesmaid or usher to organise the shot by getting them to ask your guests to stand close to each other and throw their confetti as high as they can to create a perfect flutter. You don't want guests throwing confetti directly at your faces!

6. Throwing high

If you want your confetti shot to capture the whole moment - you surrounded by all of your guests throwing confetti - then ask your photographer to take the shot from a ladder or somewhere high to ensure they can get everyone in. As you will probably be looking up towards your confetti, taking the photo from a higher spot will give it an interesting angle.

(credit: David Golding Photography)

And it's as simple as that! Remember to relax and enjoy your perfect moment and cherish the confetti shot forever.

Don't forget, confetti isn't just for throwing, use it to decorate your reception venue, tables or even make a romantic petal path. Take advantage of our special offers section on the website to get the most out of your confetti.

Love as always, SP x x

2/03/2016  |  Hooray for Spring... Celebrate with Blue and Gold Confetti

Hello you lovely brides-to-be! It's been a very wintry day in the Shropshire Petals shed, thankfully we're already looking forward to Spring with our Mix of the Month natural confetti! We've called it Hooray for Spring, because quite frankly we're eager to get our Spring heads on and prepare for some warmer weather.

This handpicked mix is called Hooray for Spring and it's made from Icing Sugar delphinium, Blue Bird cornflower and Honey'B calendula petals. This petal confetti mix would make the perfect combination for a gold and blue themed wedding.

This Spring themed Mix of the Month would look perfect in our Shropshire Box, a keepsake confetti box that comes complete with cones which make it easier for your guest to throw. You could even pop some confetti in mini jars to give as favours?

Blue and Gold is a really popular colour scheme for weddings this season as we've found whilst meeting brides at the wedding fairs. Let's celebrate Hooray for Spring!

Lots of love SP xxx

26/02/2016  |  Create your perfect petal confetti

Hi everyone, it's Ashley here again. During my first week in the Shropshire Petals shed, I've been experimenting with different natural confetti combinations to get ideas on what would give the perfect finish to your wedding. When I'm experimenting, I like to start with a solid bold colour, then add some complimenting colours and finish with a touch of Icing Sugar (white confetti) to lighten everything up. Sometimes I'll even add some large petals in the mix to give depth, these are great for table decorations and for lining the aisle too. If you're looking for throwing confetti, only use a quarter large petals as smaller petals are light in weight so stay in the air that little bit longer to give you your perfect photo moment.

Creating the ideal colour combinations in the shed is a lot of fun, however it can get a little messy and there isn't an undo button in real life, so if I change my mind I have to start from scratch! You on the other hand can create your own unique combinations within the comfort of your home with a nice cuppa in hand, with the complete freedom to change options with zero hassle.

To make your own unique combination you can visit our Confetti Pick and Mix page where you're able to experiment with delphinium, wildflower and large petals. Everything a blushing bride needs! There are 169,911 combinations available when deciding on our natural petal confetti, so there's plenty to choose from! Creating your ideal mix is simple, just click on the petals you love then the pick and mix generator will do the rest! You get to see what the colours look like together and if you're still unsure you can always request a free confetti sample pack

Here's my current favourite confetti mix, it's bright, fun and colourful. It's made up of Honey B, Raspberry Fool, Icing Sugar and Golden Slumber, perfect for pink and gold weddings.

As if 169,911 winning confetti combinations wasn't enough, we will be adding even more to the mix next week. Make sure to stay tuned!

Lots of love Ashley and the SP bunch xx

23/02/2016  |  We've got a newbie in the petal shed

Hello lovely brides to be! I'm Ashley and I've taken over the Shropshire Petals blog today as I'm the newbie in the petal shed.

It's my second day working on the farm and so far I've already sent out 96 confetti samples to couples getting ready to tie the knot. I've been introduced to the office dogs, Scout, Bramble and Maris. Bramble has already singled me out as the soppy push over and begged me for some of my packed lunch, I don't know how but I held strong and I didn't give in to those big brown eyes. I've also had a sneak peek into upcoming products and I've settled into working with the rest of the mad bunch.

Working on the farm is a completely new experience for me as I grew up on the coast, so I've swapped my flipflops for boots and I'm prepared for mud, hard-work and the occasional paw print. On my first day I was taken on the grand tour by Jim (the gaffa), he showed me the field where all our beautiful flowers will grow this next season. I can't wait to wander over when everything starts to flower and take some photos to share with you all. Just think of all the colours! I'll let you into a little secret, I'm a bit of a photography nut, I love photographing anything and everything. Check out the Shropshire Petals Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram social media channels over the coming weeks for some of my pics.

One thing I wasn't expecting when I arrived, was the lovely smell in the petal shed. No-one ever seems to tell you about it, but it hits you when you go in and it's just divine. I'm so excited to learn all the colour combinations of confetti, the quirky names they're given and most importantly how you will be using them for your weddings.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and sharing what's going on in the shed.

Hello from the Petal Shed! With Mother's Day around the corner, Dawn is making up boxes of Wheat Sheaves, wreaths and bundles of all varieties, including thistles, lavender, rose and cottage garden ready to go out to loving Mums up and down the country.

So no better person than to write this blog than Dawn herself  with a few ideas about Mother's Day.  Don't forget to check out her Mother's Day ideas board over on Pinterest.

We all celebrate Mothering Sunday but do we know the original meaning, or how far back it goes. Mothers day was celebrated as far back as 250 B.C, when the Romans offered gifts to Cybele, who was the Mother of all gods and goddesses.

Like many traditions Mothering Sunday has a religious purpose, being held on the fourth Sunday of Lent just before Easter. In the past we would of made a Simnel Cake to give with wild flowers we had picked along the hedge rows to give our Mothers.

So to show them your appreciation for all they do for you, you could take them breakfast in bed, lead them up a pretty garden path to afternoon tea, take them to a posh venue, have lunch at home or buy them wild flowers.

Or why not do something completely different?  Buy one of our wheat sheaves and add fresh wild flowers or roses yourself like the pretty picture above, for that personal touch.  What ever you decide to do , do it with love xxx

To Mothers everywhere

Thank you Dawn! Shropshire Petals has a whole range of wheat sheaf, wheat wreath and bundles available online with lots of time to order before Mothers Day for that personal touch.

16/02/2016  |  Amethyst - The Perfect February Wedding Colour!

With Amethyst being the birthstone for the month of February, it really is the perfect colour scheme to pick for a February wedding! The Ancient Greeks believed that wearing an Amethyst stone would enable you to keep a balanced mind. Perfect to stop those wedding planning stresses from getting the better of you!

For February's Mix of the Month we have combined our beautiful 'Amethyst' petals with 'Wisteria' Hydrangea petals and 'Lady in Red' Rose petals for a very romantic mix! We love this mix in our new Kraft Cones to add a rustic touch to any wedding.

There are lots of different ways of adding this February colour into your big day. We love this simple Wedding Cake with the elegant Amethyst flowers flowing down the tiers, also our Cream Rose and Lavender Wheat Sheaves add a touch of purple by using them as either a bouquet or as table centre pieces!

weeding_cake Lavender_wheat_sheaves

Make sure you tie your Husband to be in with your Amethyst theme! Use some fresh Delphiniums and a satin purple ribbon on his button hole to co-ordinate with the whole theme.

Finally our Lavender bunches can be used in a wide range of different ways as a finishing touch to your big day. Take a look at our Fields of Ideas page to gain some inspiration of how to use your lavender!

We'd love to hear if you have a purple wedding and of course send us your confetti pics!

11/02/2016  |  Love Blossoms for Valentine's

As it's almost Valentine's Day, we thought we'd share with you just a few of the things we love here at Shropshire Petals...

We love growing our natural petal confetti.  100% biodegradable, all our delphinium and wildflower petals are grown right here on our Shropshire Petals farm, with 40 acres last year it's a blooming lovely place to be!

We love picking confetti! Harvest isn't by any means easy but it certainly brings a smile when the sun shines and the fields are in bloom.

We love bringing the crop into store.  When all of the petals are off their stems and dried, we love bringing the hundreds of boxes into store and quality checking them to select only the most perfect petals.

We love mixing confetti! One of the best parts of the job at Shropshire Petals is making up confetti mixes, with unique orders fulfilling the latest trends.  Go on, go have a play on the Pick&Mix.

We love a good confetti flutter! A huff and a puff and it's a magical confetti shot!

We love confetti shaping! You will often see one of the SP girls making some confetti art, what can you create with natural petal confetti?

And finally, we love a romantic proposal, will you put a ring on it this Valentine's Day?

However you spend your Valentine's Day, fill it with Love.  If you are planning a romantic proposal or a romantic Valentine's, we'd love to hear from you and of course Send Us Your Pics!

5/02/2016  |  Styled Bridal Shoot inspired by Old World Glamour

Here at Shropshire Petals, we often get asked to send confetti to photographers for photo shoots.  Last summer, we sent petals to the lovely Scott-Wood Photography for an Old World Glamour shoot.  Today we welcome Rowena from Scott-Wood Photography as our guest blogger:

Last summer Scott-Wood Photography and a great team of talented wedding professionals had great fun recreating ‘old world glamour’ in the gorgeous Georgian House that is Island Hall in Cambridgeshire.

Sitting resplendent on the banks of the river Great Ouse, overlooking the ornamental island from which it takes its name, wedding couples and their guests enjoy exclusive use of the house and from early spring through to autumn you can also have a splendid marquee on the island.

The main inspiration for the shoot was Cecil Beaton, without a doubt one of the greatest fashion photographers of last century, famed for capturing beautiful women elegantly and beloved of Vanity and Vogue. His images are timeless, ethereal and classic.

The feature image of the day is inspired by romance with a capital R! Pink and cream candles and natural rose petal confetti, surround the bride as she stands by a beautiful fireplace bathed in gorgeous light from the candles and natural light from the window. The striking fashion forward backless two-piece is a design by Lara B, worn beautifully by model Stacey. It’s a fairytale, ethereal image with a frisson of colour provided by the beautiful teal Mandarina shoes.

Each of our brides had a very different look and a heavy crochet strapless gown by Jesus Peiro suited Katie perfectly for more beautiful shots by the fireplace. The emphasis is on fine art and elegance showing the detail of the gorgeous lace of the Jesus Peiro gown and the delicate shoes surrounded by petals and candles. So romantic!

There is an amazing image by Cecil Beaton of Audrey Hepburn, leaning elegantly against a pillar and looking SO elegant. Island Hall has amazing blue pillars in its main hall so the opportunity to capture shots here was too good to miss, with model Jen reclining gracefully in an Elbeth Gillis ‘Edith’ gown. She looks stunning and it’s the kind of bridal portrait that is just timeless and beautiful.

And of course the team couldn’t resist using the grand stairway as a backdrop for the photo of Jen in her Elbeth Gills gown surrounded by more petals and flowers………incredibly chic.

A shoot like this requires a great team. So in addition to the owners of Island Hall, Christopher, his daughter Grace and Lady Lynda Vane Percy, playing an important part in the day and on hand to provide insight into the house the ‘dream team’ was completed by a bevy of beautiful talent

2/02/2016  |  February Wedding Trend: Love and Jewels

As you all know February is known for Valentine's Day, but what quite a few of you might not know is that the birthstone for February is Amethyst, a rich violet quartz gemstone.  So we've combined  the two for Shropshire Petals February Mix of the Month.

February's confetti mix is a combination of 'Amethyst' delphiniums mixed with 'lady in red' rose petals and 'wisteria' lilac and white hydrangea petals.  This mix is a rich mix of purples and reds and is perfect for a February wedding or even for adding a flutter of romance to a Valentine's day surprise.  If you are getting married this month, we recommend our pink confetti cones to really add the romance!

Alternatively, white cones show off the tips of the wisteria hydrangea petals and make the Amethyst petals stand out, bold block colours always create a big impact for a confetti shot.  Brown craft cones are also a recommendation to combine the themes of love and rustic weddings.

feb_confetti_mix_in_white_cones feb_confetti_mix_in_craft_cones

Our confetti is grown right here on our farm and here's Jim and Jess standing in a field full of the Amethyst delphiniums.  Perhaps a lavender wheat sheaf could just be the perfect Valentine's day present for a bespoke thoughtful gift.

29/01/2016  |  Top tips on how to choose your confetti

Confetti?  Simple isn’t it…guests bring it with them to your wedding and throw it when the photographer tells them to? Wrong…there is so much more to confetti.

Until a few years ago, it was usually the guests who brought confetti to a wedding, however with couples wanting to choose their own confetti to match their wedding theme, now they provide it. But with so much more choice, how do you choose your confetti? Here are our top 5 tips for choosing confetti.

Choose natural petal confetti

Churches and venues prefer natural petal confetti to the paper or synthetic types, as it is 100% biodegradable and eco-friendly. As it is just like blossom falling from a tree, there is no cleaning up required and it isn’t harmful to animals that may pick it up.

Choose the right type for what you want it for

As there are different types of petal to choose from, we always recommend the smaller delphinium or wildflower petals for throwing confetti as it is light, which means it will fall delicately to the ground, enabling the photographer to capture the moment perfectly. If there is a specific colour only available in larger petals, add a handful of these to smaller petals to create a beautiful textured mix.

Use confetti for decorating

If you want to use confetti for decorating your reception tables and venue, larger petals work really well. Scatter them over a crisp white tablecloth for a colour splash on your tables or place them in a circle around your table centrepieces to create a pretty frame.

ShropshirePetals.com_Clementine_petals___15.95_per_litre ShropshirePetals.com_Cream_Rose_and_Lavender_Wheat_Sheaf___25.95_and_Summer_Nights_Confetti___11.95_per_litre__2_

Choosing your colours

Choosing the right colour mix might sound simple; do you want it to match or contrast your wedding them, or do you want a bold colour pop on your photographs? Think about where you are going to have your confetti moment, is the background light or dark? Choose a confetti mix that will stand out: darker/brighter mixes when in an open area and lighter mixes when against a wall or dark area work really well.

Choose how much you need

Deciding how much confetti to order can be difficult. We have developed a confetti calculator, which allows you to enter your wedding details including how many guests you are having and what your want your petals for. It will then tell you how much you will need to order. As a guide, for throwing confetti, normally half of your guests will throw (usually the ladies), which will also give you an idea of how much to order

For more inspiration, visit our Fields of Ideas, which is packed with ideas of what you can do with confetti.

19/01/2016  |  Win 2 litres of rose petals to make this Valentine's Day extra special

We love a good competition here at Shropshire Petals and what better than giving away rose petals to make one lucky winner’s Valentine’s Day extra special this year!

Confetti isn’t just for weddings, there’s so much more you can do with it.  Here are a few ideas of how you can make this Valentine’s one to remember:

  • Set the mood by lighting some candles around the house and add a scattering of petals to the dining table, where you will serve your partner’s favourite meal.
  • Add some fun – leave a path of petals throughout the house for your partner to follow, leading to a Valentines Day surprise!
  • Make a photo album, placing photos of you both inside and decorate with natural petals. You can both then sit back with your favourite tipple talking about all of your happy memories.
  • Fill your favourite glasses with petals and hide a surprise gift inside – perfect if you or your partner is planning on proposing!
  • Make your own petal bath bomb, scented with your favourite smell and place it into a hot steamy bath for some relaxation time.
  • Sprinkle petals on the bed and pillows for some added romance to the bedroom!

Competition time…

We are giving you the chance to win 2 litres of rose petals in time for Valentine’s Day. To enter simply comment telling us your most romantic Valentine’s Day memory and share our Valentine’s Day posts on Facebook. The competition will close at midnight on Sunday 7th February and the winner will be announced on Monday 8th February.

It’s a leap year!

Ladies! This year is a leap year, which means you can officially propose to your other half. Why not spell out a special proposal using petals or lay a bed of petals down for you to kneel on when going down on one knee.

We recommend…

7/01/2016  |  2016 spring confetti colour trends

Wedding colour trends change each year and season. 2016’s spring colours are vivid brights mixed with subtle nudes and hints of pastels.

Whether you choose just one colour as your wedding theme, or a selection of colours, there is always the perfect confetti mix for you.  Today we are sharing our top spring 2016 confetti colours.

1. Rose Quartz is said to be the colour of the year! This gentle tone conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Our recommendation to match this pretty colour is Candyfloss delphinium petals. Rose Quartz pairs well with Serenity, Peach Echo and Lilac Grey. To include all of these colours, an excellent mix would be Candyfloss, Frosted Blue and Lady Grey delphinium petals with Promise rose petals.

2. Peach Echo is a warm shade of orange, perfect for being playful with colours. Our recommendation would be our Coral Reef confetti mix, which includes hints of orange, pink and ivory. It can be difficult to find all of the details you want in the your colour scheme; including different shades around your chosen colour gives you a lot more freedom when it comes to choosing details.

3. Serenity is weightless and airy, with its smooth tone, just like the sky. Serenity is a calming colour, perfect for a wedding! For a bold colour splash on your wedding day, Serenity pairs well with Peach Echo, Snorkel Blue and Buttercup. Our recommendation for a great confetti moment would be to mix these colours together using Candyfloss, Frosted Blue, Ivory and Golden Slumber. For a more subtle mix, the perfect blend would be Icing Sugar, Duck Egg and Golden Slumber.

4. Snorkel Blue is a tone bursting with energy. Part of the navy family, Snorkel Blue is perfect combined with Ivory for a simple, yet bold wedding theme. Add as much or as little colour as you wish. Our recommendation is our Something Blue. Snorkel Blue pairs well with Pantone colours Buttercup, Iced Coffee and Peach Echo.

5. Buttercup is a sunny, happy shade of yellow. Perfect for a spring wedding, this stunning colour can be dressed up by pairing it with other colours such as, Serenity, Snorkel Blue and Lilac Grey. If you want to tone it down, mix it with ivory or paler shades. Our recommendation is our bright Sunshine Kisses mix of Honey’b calendula petals and Icing Sugar delphiniums.

6. Limpet Shell Weather is a crisp, clear, clean and defined shade of green. This modern tone evokes tranquillity and freshness, perfect if you want a subtle wedding theme, with a hint of colour. It will be difficult to match every detail with this colour, so why not combine it with Peach Echo, Rose Quartz or Iced Coffee. Our recommendation for confetti would be a contrast in colours, picking a few pastel shades to compliment such as our Summer Nights, or even Icing Sugar on its own.

7. Lilac Grey is an edgy neutral shade of grey, great for vintage weddings. Our recommendation would be to mix this lovely grey tone with ivory in our Winters Morn delphinium petals. Add a touch of Serenity and Rose Quartz if you want more colours in your confetti photo with the Vintage Daydream mix.  Lilac Grey also pairs well with Green Flash, Fiesta and Iced Coffee.

8. Fiesta is an exciting fiery, strong tone, which provides a stark contrast to the more calming colours. Fiesta pairs well with Green Flash; our recommendation would be to add green and ivory for a striking confetti mix, such as a pick and mix of Icing Sugar, Envy and Romeo and Juliet, which will really stand out on photos. Fiesta also pairs well with Snorkel Blue and Limpet Shell.

9. Iced Coffee is said to be a transitional colour that will take us through the seasons, so expect to see this around all year. This soft and subtle colour works well mixed with Serenity, Rose Quartz and Lilac Grey. Our recommendation would be to combine other subtle colours, such as a pick and mix of Icing Sugar and Frosted Blue delphiniums, adding some Delilah rose petals. These colours work really well for vintage weddings and allow you to combine other neutral shades, without colours being overbearing.

10. Green Flash is a vivid, fresh tone, perfect for spring. It pairs well with Snorkel Blue, Limpet Shell and Serenity. If you would like strong colours, our recommendation would be a pick and mix of Midnight Blue and Envy. However, if you want to something less bold, a mix of Icing Sugar, Something Blue and Envy would work perfectly.
